Hey Don,

Thought you might get a kick out of this one. Specifically the quote

"There are benefits and costs to every health behavior," Sciamanna said. "It's probable that the benefits of protecting yourself from the sun, at least for physicians, doesn't outweigh the costs they perceive--such as inconvenience or mess."

Check out the orignal story.

Doctors No Better Than Patients at Sun Protection
Tue Jul 30, 2:12 PM ET
By Alison McCook

Doctors may spend less time in the sun than their patients, he suggested, or may not believe that sun exposure poses any real danger to them...... ( and they passed med school NOT BELIEVING?????)

"There are benefits and costs to every health behavior," Sciamanna said. "It's probable that the benefits of protecting yourself from the sun, at least for physicians, doesn't outweigh the costs they perceive--such as inconvenience or mess." (Hmmmmmm..... you mean physicians are HUMAN?????)

In an interview with Reuters Health, Sciamanna said that it was unclear why doctors opted for sunscreen over other protection strategies. However, the doctors in this sample were, overall, younger than patients, and younger respondents tended to be less likely to wear a shirt or stay in the shade. (I can only assume that the patients were in a nursing home in florida if they were OLDER than the doctors!!!)

Numerous studies have demonstrated that doctors advise their patients to adopt the same healthy behaviors the doctors themselves employ, and Sciamanna and his team found that doctors who reported fewer sun protection strategies were less likely to tell their patients to protect themselves from the sun. ( throw their highly degreed butts right out of the AMA per the instructions of the AAD!!!)

"If we want doctors to spread the word, we've got to intervene on them," Sciamanna said *please note the quote has sprinkeling from sheila within

So....... now we have Doctors plotting interventions on other Doctors..... the madness will never end!
