Rep Power: 24 | Do you buy the ones from the manufacturers with the assortment they supply with a display? Or do you design your own and select which lotions you wish to display? If you do your own... how do you display them and do you have a particular merchandising method to draw in clients? I design my own and I have a method... tell me what you do and I'll share some of my secrets. |

Rep Power: 23 | the girls at "my" salon have everything behind the counter... way behind it so it's hard to get a good look at the products. They are all grouped by brand... I had no idea about lotion until this past fall and I had been tanning for 4 years there!!! No one ever discussed it with me and that "display" wasn't easily accessible enough for me to check them out. Even today, the only reason I can make sense of it is because I live here now and have learned about the different products from you guys. Now I can look at it and find the tingles, the bronzers, etc. Before it was, as Greg says, a "wall of confusion." |

Rep Power: 23 | We have a glass case next to the front desk. It was originally behind the desk. It's been moved so that people can easily look at the products, touch, smell, etc. The cabinet has five shelves. Each shelf is for a different brand. I'll share more later when I'm not so stinkin tired from moving. |

Rep Power: 23 | We do keep our lotions behind the counter, but there is a shelf within reach of customers with several bottles that I sample into cups. This allows them to smell it and hold it. Although they are behind the counter they are still accessable. We explain lotions constantly and allow them to hold each bottle while we discuss the benefits. |

Rep Power: 0 | I had always grouped lotions by brand until this year. In some material I got form Greg at Soakin Up the Rays, he suggested grouping like products together. I tried that this year and also made up sign for each display explaining the type of lotion (base, advanced, bronzer, tingle, after tan, etc). This has worked well not only for the clients but also for the employees who have the info right there when they are talking about the lotions. Also, if the cusomer has to wait they can read the shelf info. It reinforces the Soakin Up Rays Posters we have framed in the rooms. Our lotions are on open shelves but I only have 2 of each displayed. My sample packettes are on a pegboard by register. I tried the manufacturers' displays but they take up way too much room. (We have a pretty small area) Pam |

Rep Power: 24 | Our lotion display is right next to the counter... so when you're facing it, the counter is on your right and the lotion display in on the left. We have long glass shelves... 3 that we use for the lotions. The lowest one has our discounted lotions, eyewear and specialty items. The lotions are grouped according to what kind they are and within those groupings I have them grouped by brand. At this point in time we are using Caltan's Step structure... but are going to change that as we eliminate Caltan lotions. We have eliminated almost all AG products and are working on Caltan next. When we add a mid level to our equipment mix, I will structure our lotions to compliment the level of equipment the tanner is using. We are also changing the counter and display... I'll post a pic of what it looks like now. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: Bronze Star on 2002-07-24 10:46 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | We have a waterfall display that I have one bottle of each lotion on display. We keep the rest of the product under the counter. Our lotions are sorted by brand. But I like the idea of sorting them by type. |

Rep Power: 23 | I need a new way to display my packet lotions, right now I have wire baskets on the counter that hold the packets of lotions. To me thought it seems cluttered, what else can I do to display my lotion packets. I was considering putting behind the desk, but they would not be accesible to the clients to touch, feel, etc....and I had heard that you should keep products close to the customer so they can do so? I have a large front area just don't want them walking off if I put them away from the register! Any ideas? What do you guys do with the packets, how do you best display them so they get customers attention? Thanks! Christina |
