FYI To Ask Don's Army:

An article in the July 15, 2002 issue of Cancer Research by Fears, et al, titled "Average Midrange Ultraviolet Radiation Flux and Time Outdoors Predict Melanoma Risk" is not to be feared!

Why?

Because it is yet another article that is "contrived" to lend substance to the premise that the UVR wavelengths in sunlight causes melanoma notwithstanding the fact that there is absolutely no credible evidence to support this premise.

While the opening sentence of the abstract "Sunlight is the major environmental risk factor for melanoma" is true, it is not true for the reasons set forth by Fears, et al.

However, if you change the title to "Average Midrange INFRARED RADIATION Flux and Time Outdoors Predict Melanoma Risk" and you will have the answer, IMHO, to the melanoma conundrum because is is "heat" not UVR that is the "inducing" factor for CMM.

PS: I'll have more to say about the Fears report later.

Don,

When is this midrange IR "heat" going to be quantified in measurable units over a specific bandwidth in ? mW/cm^2 or what units.

Thermometers (digital or analog) can't be the proper way to measure it.
