Employees each come with many unique abilities and chacteristics. How you decide which one to hire or keep.

Here is a few thoughts:

In Season: Focus on sales people. You need sales people to make more profits and deal with more customers.

Out of Season: Focus on dependability. You want people that will be there everyday to keep your salon open and running.

Greg,
My opinion is the complete opposite.

During season sales happen alot easier and I have two employees on a shift so I try to pair a "sales" employee with a "clean freak" dependable employee. You never want to be short handed when you have a lobby full of clients.
During off season you need those "sales" employees to sell something to EVERY single client they possibly can to try to keep your gross sales a high as possible during off season so you can avoid dipping into savings.

I guess your method would work also, sell the heck out of stuff during season then your savings will be bigger to use during off season.
Glad we all agree to disagree!!!!!! [ This Message was edited by: Teresa on 2002-07-15 07:45 ]

Teresa,

You echo my feelings completely. In the busy season employees should focus on the "extras" such as facial lotions, tan extenders and spf's. The lotion sales will already exist... in the slow season you need an overall competent, good salesperson to work on off-season sales.

I also feel that hiring smart, business savvy, people oriented employees is preferable to hiring someone who's "into" tanning. You want someone who can think on their feet and get the job done effectively, efficiently and without costing you extra money. A pretty face may be only that! Hiring for looks or image is not always the best business strategy and may cost you dearly in the end.
