How many staff meetings do you have a month at your salon?

Do you meet on a one on on more often than as a group?

you should devote at least one minute every shift to touching base with your employees. Give them goals, feedback, the focus for the day, etc. Remember they won't know what YOU WANT unless you tell them.

We always had a "one minute meeting" whenever an employee clocked in and got onto the floor. I'd give them yesterday's numbers, the goals for the day, where we were at that moment, and any special promotions or things to watch out for.

Storewide meetings were held once a month or once every other month, depending upon the need. I really found that the little bit of one-on-one time, every day, every shift helped to train and reinforce much better than whole staff gatherings.

I do talk to every one of my working employees for at least 1 minute everyday, if not in person at least by phone. They will ask or tell you something that they wouldn't call you for. Keeps the doors open and also lets them know you are aware of what they are doing.
We have salon meetings of all 3 salons together 1 time per month during season and bi-monthly during off season.

I prefer to have the one-on-one time. This allows me to make sure they understand current specials, lotion sales, computer issues, etc. This also keeps meetings with everyone from getting bogged down with issues that only one employee may have.

I also think that the one-on-one time lets the employee know that you know how they are doing on the job. It gives them the opportunity to ask for feedback or discuss feedback freely without worrying about other co-workers overhearing or making fun of them.
