Rep Power: 25 | I always thought that I was pretty easy to work for, I let my employees have off ALL the days they want, bring them an occasional treat to the salon, let the ones work together that want to work together, let them transfer to a different salon. Almost everything they want I give them, I give them the next level of commission sometimes when they were close but didn't really make it. Lately since we have been slowing down so have they, don't seem to get anymore than the minimum cleaning done. Do most of their duties half a$$ed. A couple of days ago I made one girl refold all of her towels because they looked like heck. I have been on them about cleaning, selling, no magazines, puzzle books, cell phones, etc. Are they just recovering from being busy, am I too hard on them, or should I stand by the motto "my way or the hiway" and make an example of someone????. Maybe it has always been this way and now that I am in all of the salons alot more I notice it. Before the salon that I worked 30+ hours per week in was clean because I did it and the other two salons I just went in did what I had to and got outta there. Maybe I had tunnel vision. |

Rep Power: 23 | could be Teresa. When I worked at McDonalds they usto say if you have time to lean you have time to clean. For me that was my first and best job at 19. That was several years ago when fast food was really that, I get so peeed off when I go in and it takes for ever and they set your burger on the tray and wait for the frys to cook so you get hot frys and a cold burger or the frys are so old they suck. Hold on I am gettin g on my box...When I worked at mcd's we were timmed on how long we had people at the windows and drive thru. You didn't put the food on the tray until all of it was ready and hey if you were slow you would as them the sit down with their drink and bring the food to them. ok, feel a little better but what the heck. I go to my mcd at noon and have to wait for the food-um hello... How do you get them to understand I will give you slack off, but make sure the job is done and clean. Teresa I am sure you would be wonderful to work for. becka |

Rep Power: 23 | I think it was there and now you're able to see it more. But if this is what you've expected all along.... then stick to your guns girl! I'm with Becka on this one too. I worked as a Sr Sup for Foods at a major theme park and we had tough standards. I wrote them, that's why they were tough. I literally taught people how to wash their hands. I didn't want any sanitation issues on my watch. I was VERY thorough on everything and if I got a report that one of my stores or employees had a problem, I dealt with it personally. My staff was hand picked and trained by myself and from there they trained the entire department. You have to be thorough and you have to be consistent. If you loosen your stance now... what will happen next Spring? |

Rep Power: 23 | My motto with my students is to "expect the best!" It's almost a compliment to expect that your employees (or students) can do a perfect job. Obviously, you must train them thoroughly to peform tasks to your specifications. But once they have been trained and they know the expectation, I see no reason why you should lower your standards. Don't stress about being too hard on your staff. They know what you expect and they need to deliver. That's what they are paid for. |

Rep Power: 25 | Yes I too have noticed a "Slack off" lately. I believe it is mid season burn out, summer vacation, etc. I have also noticed a surge in new applicants. Bottom line, an employee is an investment. If you aren't getting a return on your investment, then move your money elsewhere. If you may get more for your money by replacing the slack offs , then by all means, do it. Any business owner would tell you the same thing. Why should we allow it? Because we are doing SO WELL, that we can afford slack off employees, I don't think so. They need to GET UP OFF OF THAT THANG. |

Rep Power: 0 | I have a hard time with employees sometimes. I get good coments from customers, but their standards are not up to mine. I try to expain to them that I want things done my way becouse I have everything I have riding on my business. I can see why they don't feel this way themselves, but I want a high standard of operation, better than my competition. I have my employees get Smart Tan Certified before they work the counter. I consider this a sales job. I do sales training and sales contests on a regular basis. I know this is long winded, maybe some of you can sence my frustration. I know without ownership in the business, I won't get the results from my employees that I would like, but I don't think it is to much to ask to clean and stock a room correctly. |

Rep Power: 0 | One last thing, we have a check list for opening and closing. What do I have to do to get people to use it? I went to do my normal computer stuff tonight, and I ended up stocking the rooms ect. and signing of on my own checklist! |

Rep Power: 23 | ok, back to mcdonalds. One of my managers made the point this is my career, he was a little higher than a store manager, for you this is just a job. At 19 I didn't get it until sometime latter. Ya, that would suck I put a lot into this and do my very best and for you it's a paycheck to party on. |
