Rep Power: 26 | FYI: Last night it became quite clear that there is "confusion" regarding how to "mix" your bed cleaning "concentrate" (like Lucasol, AcrylClean and ETS's pH Neutral Disinfectant Cleaner) before you use it. As mentioned, it is my belief that we must endeavor to "disinfect" our sunbeds. "Disinfection" is defined as the elimination of pathogenic (disease producing) "microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses, etc.). To accomplish this objective, you must have a concentration of at least 700 - 800 ppm (parts per million). Therefore, listed below are is the "formula" for making up the 2.5 gallons of disinfectant/cleaner in a Lucasol "MixTank" so that you end up with 700 - 1000 ppm. 1. 5.0 ounces concentrate = 700 ppm 2. 5.7 ounces concentrate = 800 ppm 3. 6.4 ounces concentrate = 900 ppm 4. 7.2 ounces concentrate = 1000 ppm However, keep in mind that you should QC (quality control) EACH and EVERY "batch" of disinfectant/cleaner by using a Lucasol "Quat-Test" strip and then recording your results in a log book. That way you will have a "paper trail" to prove that your disinfectant/cleaner was made up properly. In addition, I pointed out last night that, for the past 5+ years, we have used a "double spray; double wipe" technique (spray - wipe; spray -wipe) that doubles your probability of eliminating any pathogen present on the sunbed. We use our cleaning towel for only one sunbed and then discard it in order to eliminate any possibility of "cross contamination" between sunbeds. In a later post, I will give you the results of some tests we did last week. Rep Power: 28 | Thank you Mr. Don for all the heads up on disinfecting our tanning units, not sanitizing. You have truly opened our eyes. One question, will the lucasol quat strip work on any brand of solution ? _________________ Barkin with the Big Dog since April 2002 Mitzi [ This Message was edited by: buntanner on 2002-05-13 09:41 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | I was wondering the same thing. We use the X-10 bed disinfectant(Leaves absolutely NO streaking) made from Precision Acrylics(I believe) and when I tested using a quat strip from lucasol that I just ordered in, it wasn't 700-800 ppm. We are following the directions exactly how the concentrate says, so I'm confused. |

Rep Power: 26 | Carla/Mitxi: The Lucasol "Quat-Test" strips corelate very well when compared to a TDS meter that I use as the "reference" method. Therefore, I recommend adding concentrate until you read 700-800 ppm NO MATTER WHAT THE DIRECTIONS ON THE PRODUCT SAYS. The only way you can be sure of the "final concentration" is to QC it with a test strip (or you can spend $100.00 and buy your own TDS meter). Hope this helps. Don |

Rep Power: 28 | Testing materials to use ourselves???? You know, to do swabs on our equipement. Also, how many ounces is 50ML? I use a teqilla shot glass (purchased full in liquer store) I thought it was 1 ounce, but when I mixed 4 shots to my mixing tank, I got 1000 reading from the quat strip! |

Rep Power: 26 | Mitzi: Ask Don went brain dead! 1 ounce = 30 ml (29.57 ml to be precise). Thus, 50 ml = 1.67 ounces. 4 shot glasses X 1.67 ounces = 6.7 ounces. 1. 5.0 ounces concentrate = 700 ppm 2. 5.7 ounces concentrate = 800 ppm 3. 6.4 ounces concentrate = 900 ppm 6.8 ounces concentrate = 950 ppm 4. 7.2 ounces concentrate = 1000 ppm Therefore, you should have been about 950 ppm. Don PS: Be sure to clean the tequila out of the "shot glass" before using it to mix your cleaning/disinfecting fluid and vice versa. LOL[ This Message was edited by: Don Smith on 2002-05-16 17:50 ] |

Rep Power: 28 | Thank you Don, That tequilla has been long gone. I saved the bottle cause they say I swallowed the worm. I don't remember it. Anyway I took it to the salon a couple of years ago to mix my solution . When I got my quat strips in I did the test and I was reading 1000. That was with 4 shots. |
