Lotions are different than your tanning beds... People will buy them based soley on price and convenience (but if they see it online for half of what you offer - you better believe they will buy it). If you discount your lotions however - they will learn that you are willing to drop price in order to retain there business. You also would have to drop it so low to compete, that you are not really making too much money from it.

One way to keep them purchasing from you, is to offer a free session in one of your upgraded systems if they purchase it from you. I allow customers to use my Sunsport ($29.00 a session), My Mystic ($29.00 a session), or my Double Shot ($20.00 a session). When you sell the lotion, you tell them you are going to give them the free session, which is going to save them x amount of dollars (the price of a SINGLE session sothey will see the VALUE of it)

This helps two-fold. First they purchase lotions at my establishment. Second - it gets the people who did not want to spend the extra money, the opportunity to use it and fall in love with it and continue using it. It works. It will cost you $1.00 - $3.50. Explain to the customer that they should use the lotion in 8 - 12 sessions so that they are getting the benefit of it.

I tried doing this on another level. I gave my customers credits to use on upgrade equipment. Say the bottle of lotion retailed at 30.00 I gave them 15.00 credit to use on upgrade equipment. Didn't really go to well and that is our own fault.

But doing it your way could be an easier sell and not as hard to keep up with. Buy the lotion today, use the upgrade today!

Thanks Michael for the tip.

What better way to move a $75 bottle of lotion. Lotion sales are easiest way to increase profit for any salon. C

Most lotion sales for our salon is when people first buy thier session packages, They would not benifit from being put in our best booth for only a few minutes.

It would work on existing clients that have already been tanning.

Did you not read M&C's post? Start them off in the best bed/booth you have and keep them there...

But chippp - between me and you - and I won't tell anyone this secret. YOU ARE A MORON AND WOULD NOT GET IT ANYWAY... did you know there is a new stand up booth out that the customer lays in? I sell them - want to be the first to buy one. Now I know you have a retarded streak in you like I do, but I think yours runs deeper and is wider because you... well... you just are retarded.

sometimes if you type slower it is easier for him to understand.
I agree with you I think you have a great idea.

I think Michael is right on target.

We are incorporating lotion into all new packages purchased. This gets them using lotion from the very beginning.

We also ask current customers as they are signing in if they have their eyewear and lotion. Those that are not using lotion will ask what they need lotion for. We will provide a one-time only free sample to those that are not using lotion to show the differences.

We also instituted a Lotion Club. This is slowly catching on. 5% off 1st bottle, 10% off second, etc. until they get to 40% off.

MW, I started giving a free upgrade visit today with the purchase of a tanning lotion. Hope it works better than the credit thing I spoke of above.
And in order to not get to complicated they must use the upgrade visit day of purchase. This way I don't have any thing to keep up with like the credits. thanks for the idea.

WOW. that sounds like a great idea!!! I wish my salon would do something like that. I am a true lotion junkie, but I don't always love their "lotion of the week" selection.
