Rep Power: 26 | I have been thinking (which causes "brain droppings" - LOL) a great deal about the "lotion diversion" issue lately because of (1) the interest in this topic on the various websites, and, (2) because of the e-mails I have received with questions and comments about this subject. Therefore, I decided to do a little "mini series" about this topic. That's right, tanning lotions have nutritional value. IF you sell lots of them, you and your family will eat much better! [Note: Remember the old sales training joke - "Timid salespeople raise skinny kids".] So, here's some tips about how to use a "little bit of science" to help you sell more lotions (and eat better). (Clients LOVE to hear you tell them how to tan better and look better and they REALLY LOVE to hear their tanning salon professional use "science sounding" words when they talk about tanning lotions!) 1. The moisturizing effect of a tanning lotion applied before you tan REHYDRATES your skin and causes the stratum corneum (the "dead cell" level at the surface of the skin) to "swell" and become more permeable to UVR. 2. Applying a tanning lotion before you tan changes the REFRACTIVE INDEX of your skin which reduces the "scattering" of UVR that occurs when UVR photons strike "dry" skin. Thus, changing the refractive index of the skin increases the number of UVR "photons" (they LOVE the word "photons"!) that penetrate the skin where they can help you tan ( remember, reflected "photons" are "wasted" photons). 3. Thus, "rehydrating" your skin and changing the "refractive index" work together synergistically to help you get a deeper, darker tan MORE QUICKLY! The two factors "increase" the number of UVR photons penetrating the skin by 30 - 40%! [TIP: Explain to your clients that increasing the number of photons penetrating the skin by 30 - 40% is like being able to tan 26 - 28 minutes in a 20 minute sunbed or tanning 16 - 17 minutes in a 12 minute high intensity sunbed.] 4. The last "master secret" to selling more lotions (after you have explained the points above) is to SAMPLE, SAMPLE, SAMPLE! Hope this information helps you eat better! Rep Power: 26 | Chippp: Until we learn how to "levitate" people above the bottom acrylic of sunbeds, the most "even" tan will be provided by booths. The use of a lotion is even more important when tanning in a booth because of the UVR "loss" that occurs because of the reflection of UVR photons off dry skin. Also, I ALWAYS advise against the use of tingling lotions in a booth. Why? Because of the relatively high number who get "light headed" and "nauseus" when they use a tingling lotion and tan in a stand up booth. Don |

Rep Power: 24 | One thing to add is: When you realize you can sell any brand of indoor tanning products you want. Why not select one that has premium quality products and premium quality profits! Many major name brands are priced so high you can only mark them up 100%, while other lines with the same quality of products are priced so you can mark them up 200%+. Selling is important but selling what makes you more money is smart! |
