I beleive that some people can easilly take a higher dose then 4 med. That many people even fair skinned people can work up to and suppass the max 4 med dose, and that this not a bad thing.

What makes anyone think 4 med is the max dose. Did God say this some were?

People tanning out side offten receive much higher doses then 4 med, and have no problems at all with burning at all.
Dark skinned people will get darker and darker if they get higher and higher doses.
What should the REAL max dose be, why do we go along with 4 med as the max dose?
WERE IS THE SCEINCE?

What is the dose of a day at the beach in texas or mexico, or tahiti?

We never allow clients to suppass 4 med in our salon, its the law!

But I have personally taken a session and 1/2 after tanning for many weeks, when I am at my darkest, and never had any problem.
This is not the norm for me, but I have over the last 20 years done it once or twice.

Ho many owners have ever stayed in longer then the max exposure?
NOW TELL THE TRUTH?

Chippp:

A VERY perceptive observation!

As a matter of fact, the 4.0 MED Maximum Allowable Dose (MAD) is for the "most sensitive skin type 2 (our 2A)" and NOT for a skin type 4 or 5 that can handle 5 -6 MED and a skin type 6 can handle 8 - 10 MED..

Each skin type/subtype has their own t-UVR (tolerance to UVR) level. In addition, our t-UVR changes (increases) as our tan builds up and decreases as it fades.

We need to have the 4 MED limit done away with!
This should be one of the number one issues we should be taking up.

Be careful what you ask for, because you may .. oh never mind.

Actually the new bigger MED proposed by the FDA will increase MAD by ~28% (from 624 to 800 J/m^2 eff.). So folks of higher skin type and/or built-up-tans will be allowed longer session time or stronger dose at original Te.

IST for new white tanners would be reduced slightly (from 3/4 small MED to 1/2 big MED), preserving safety factor for preventing erythema.
