FYI:

Have you noticed that the TrashingTheImageOfTanningToday website is trying - bless their little hearts - to become more like http://www.tantalk.com?

However, making the change from being the "scandal sheet" of the industry to talking intelligently about things of importance to the industry is easier said than done.

- For instance, the "boys" over there are busy trying to tell all of "upscale" European sunbed manufacturers how to run their business notwithstanding the fact that NONE of them could qualify for a field sales position with these companies.

All of us here, on the other hand, know that the European sunbed manufacturers are going to do whatever they perceive is in their own best interests and so we are not surprised about some of their tactics and practices.

All of us here, on the other hand, recognize that the slogan "Buy American" often provides more value for our money AND supports American companies.

All of us here, on the other hand, understand that "performance" is more important than "bells and whistles" when it comes to sunbeds.

- For instance, our old "friend?" ~~Sheila has "morphed" into being the number one advocate of letting the ITA "old boy network" continue to make all of the critical decisions for the industry.

All of us here, on the other hand, understand that tanning salon owners MUST look out for their own best interests and not waste time "wishing" that the manufacturers will take care of us.

All of us here, on the other hand, understand that ALL of the industry trade associations deserve our support.

All of us here, on the other hand, recognize that, unfortunately, there has been more talk than action from ITA and that "boondoggles" like the selection of Erin Brockovich to speak at Nashville-2002 are the "norm" rather than the exception.

But - bless their little hearts - they are trying as hard as they can to be more like us and we should give them credit for that!

Don

OMG, Don. Eeeevvveeerrryyyy freeeeeekin' day he takes a shot. Just give it a rest for once. You're an intelligent, intuative, and even sometimes funny man, but darn, lately you're like an Energizer Bunny on a bad acid trip. Talking in the negative - playing the same broken record oooooovvverrr and ovvvverrr again.

You know darn well that we have always had content there before you, during you, and after you. Nobody is imitating anyone so stop dilluding yourself. It seemed that interboard peace was finally on its way to becoming our long awaited way of life but NOOOOOOOOOOO, you just had to go there once again.

You know, you have so much to offer here. Everybody likes your educational posts. But I doubt that your constant shot-taking and negativity is appreciated by anyone here, whether they want to admit it or not.

I try to stay more or less neutral to all this but this is just straight-up aggravating so chill out!

~ Don ?

- For instance, our old "friend?" ~~Sheila has "morphed" into being the number one advocate of letting the ITA "old boy network" continue to make all of the critical decisions for the industry. (Don Smith)

Besides the selective punctuation that I do 'get' . . . you are overstating the facts of the case ~ and it is disappointing to me.

All my communications have been very frank, easy to comprehend descriptions of my honest opinions~~ and there are people here and abroad that understand the concept that the ITA does indeed provide real VALUE to the industry with their legislative efforts . . . even if they never did anything else - this is something we all should support !

Read them again my love, it is not me advocating that we should expect the MFG's take care of us ~ I am advocating that WE all get together to take care of this INDUSTRY and by uniting all the segments to focus on this goal - YOU would have a place and a right to debate your issues such as : 'All of us here, on the other hand, understand that ALL of the industry trade associations deserve our support. (Don Smith)

You have HAD the support from most of the BEST in this industry . . .. We all have agendas . . . mine is still focused on helping the industry move forward - - stopping the madness, protecting our ability to remain in this business!

I was asking everyone to put aside the personal hurts and wars . . . even for a short time ~ to attempt to fix things.

I have not 'morphed' into anything ~ I have always been me - - - doing this.

Your concerns on me & Chris being gullible ~ quote: For instance, do either of you think that ITA will take the salon owners "side" regarding Amendment 3 - Definition of a Manufacturer"? If you do, I have some ocean front property here in AZ to sell you! . . . . think that ITA will "speak out" against Amendment 3? If so, you are both "terminally" gullible.

No my love ~ not gullible . . . just hopeful. Working together to have a voice in these debates . . . working together to stop "boondoggle" decisions and since not all of us have your grip on the science you are the spokes person for salon owners . . . but I can promise to try to become a little less hopeful if you try to become a little less negative ~ K?

Sheila

oppppppps during my spell check I had an epiphany of sorts * suddenly ALL became clear to me!!!

There IS NO black magic science to LAMPS ~ they all go on and off! The reports will say as such.

There is no ITA Motto " Protecting Your Right To Tan " ~ it's really "Protecting OUR Right to Sell Shi*"

There cannot be an INTERNATIONAL SMART TAN NETWORK that would be based upon the actual "smarts" of the players in this industry ~ we must now affectionately refer to this as the International Dummy Tan Network.

And Don Smith needs to remember that mere mortals are fallible ~ even this gal at times.

This Hussey is Just:
Trying to Keep Don Humble
{A hopeless, dirty, frustrating task . . . but somebody has to try}

Alex:

Looks like the stress of installing those new units is getting to you. In point of fact, I favorably commented on the fact that SOME of the negative behavior "over there" is decreasing. For instance, Ask YAWN (wasn't that intended to be a "shot" at yours truly?) was sent to an early (and deserved) death but the infamous "Pub" section still lives on.

BTW, get a MED/hour meter or a mini-spectroradiometer. Your UVA/UVB meter isn't telling you anything that will help you understand the performance of your new units. The UVA/UVB (and UVB) meter will help you know when to change lamps and check the transmission properties of your acrylics but that is about all. In order to understand the performance characteristics of a tanning unit you need a hand-held radiometer that approximates the "weighted" EAS (erythemal action spectrum) or, better yet, get a mini-spectroradiometer that gives you the full spectral analysis.

While we are at it, you need to use a "standard" testing protocol (like the one we developed) if you want the results to have meaning.

~~Sheila:

You plaintively and sadly asked "Or should someone just tell this insane woman that it cannot happen?" and I answered you (see above).

But let me tell you again, "insane woman" in case you missed it.

Tanning salon owners MUST look out for their own best interests and not depend upon ANYONE ELSE to look out for them (why is this so hard for you to understand?).
