Do any of you hold salon meetings? Usually when I have a salon meeting they drag themselves there knowing they've been slacking, sit like bumps on a log waiting for their "lecture" so they can go home. The minute I say meeting over the salon is vacated immediately. Today I tried a different approach. I have 9 employees that have all been there over 5 months and 4 new ones that have started in the past week or two. I praised everyone of the old ones for something good that they have done lately and welcomed the new ones. As I praised them they had to walk up to the counter to get a prize. Just little things....votive candles, lotion packets, coffee mugs (about $1.00 per person). Then I made up about 50 questions about lotions, regulations, store policies, etc. and the correct answers got little candy bars. I said meeting over and they all just kept talking, nobody was in a hurry to go and I think they all learned alot. I am going to try to praise more this busy season so that when I do have to "lecture" it evens itself out. I think it will have positive end results. Just curious how anyone else gets their employees motivated for busy season.

At this boutique that I worked at a long time ago, the manager had a sales goal that was set for each day and the was a weekly amount, it was based on the sales from the year before, but if we as a team did better than the previous year she would take us out to dinner at different places. (Outback, Red Lobster, and many different others.)

It's an idea that I plan on using. Something that you might want to think about.

We are doing an incentive program for our girls. They each have their own folder that we put training info and current duties lists in. If they exceed their goals, they get a gift certificate to get a manicure, Victoria's Secret, etc. We had a meeting Saturday morning. When I mentioned that Victoria's Secret was the next prize, I saw a bunch of little eyes light up. They are all excited, so I've met my goal.

I sold Rainbow vacuums for years, and the things that kept it exciting were weekly meetings w/on time drawing prizes, dinner, contest payoffs, sales awards, and the announcement of future contests so you could set your goal for the next week. There were also Quarterly contests w/larger prizes. I am going to do some of these things this year. Our "Quarterly Goal, so to speak" this year is going to be an all inclusive paid trip to the ITA tanning convention, hey, theres got to be something in it for me too!
