What items have you found work best for your salon? Pens, magnets, t-shirts. Do you give these away only on special occasions? Or do you give them to all new members?

We give all new members a bag with our salon info and logo on it. The bag contains a few handouts regarding tanning and a coupon for one free superbed upgrade. The bag zips and can hold their lotion and goggles. We've received a ton of compliments on them and they were exceptionally cheap.

I have done key rings and ink pens. I also give tee shirts on big promo days. I like your idea of the bags and have been meaning to do something of a sort. Just haven't gotten to it yet.

I have always given pens and in December, calendars. But I feel the best give a way ever, I started last year and I call value added, not free. It's on what we want all are tanners to use. On every package or membership the tanner receives a 8 oz. bottle of base builder from Soakin or $10 off any upgrade lotion. I started this in July of last year and my lotion sales now stand at 22%. Plus no more Eurotan, LA Express or other junk lotions. I only sell lotions that are not available in beauty supplies or on the Internet. Jack your package prices up just a little and use the base builder that I retail for $19.95 as a sale tool, to sell your packages. Then shift them to a better lotion.

Remember FREE is a four letter word that start with F.

That's funny Steve. I never had thought of it that way.

Great advice Steve...I need to start working this into my packages because I don't feel that enough of my customers realize how important lotion is - Even though I try & drill it into their heads!

Deb - An alternative would be to do the bags with your salon name and logo on it and include several sample packets. That's a great way to let them try different types of lotions so they can learn what kind of products are out there.

How cheap are the bags & where did you get them from?
Did you order them from somewhere?

Ttan - I ordered my bags from www.actionbag.com

I got 500 for $45. Not too shabby. Then I picked up some labels from Office Depot for about $20.
