Rep Power: 24 | Ok I need some advice here.. Like always here's the backround. Before I left for nashville I had an employee meeting and we went over every last possible little itty bitty detail. My employees get paid every monday, I know that's weird but everyone gets paid on fridays, so I set mine up on Mondays, so leaving was no problem because i would be back before they all got paid. Well I went through all of their shift reports and I had one employee write a note next to the cash amount, I took $20 take it out of my pay, with a happy face, then thete was another one from her I took $10 take it out of my pay and a happy face. This ****** me off, they know they do not get paid until monday, noone has ever taken money out of the shift reports before, and now I have all these "how dare she" feelings. How would you feel and what would you do? Am I over reacting? Seriously I called the salon every day I was gone once a shift, and she never mentioned this to me? grrrr |

Rep Power: 0 | I had the same problem. In the state where I live that is called stealing!!!!!!!!! At the time when my employee did it, I was home, just a phone call away. I thought this was a good employee, until then, then I didn't trust her. At first I thought, well, at least she was honest and wrote down that she took something, then I thought more and thought what did she take that I don't know, and how gutsy....... Before she came back to work I had a camera installed, to watch front desk and displays and how many people are coming in, and who they were. When she came back to work, before I even had a chance to talk to her, she saw the camera, and told me that she wasn't going to work here anymore. Thank God!!!!!! I don't have to worry anymore, but I am now working all the hours. 7am-9pm 7 days a week |

Rep Power: 0 | Me too, I would have even asked if she needed more. But that's what worried me. she new that I was home and if she just took it, what was I going to do....... but she didn't because she thought she could get away with it. I say dump Miss Sticky fingers,if you say something now, she'll just take it without even writing a iou next time. Are you willing to take that chance! |

Rep Power: 24 | It is 4:06 pm in the lovely urban suburban of Jersey City NJ, and in the last 2 weeks I have let 3 of my employees go, it is down to me, my male employee who was always the best of the bunch, and one other girl. Oh well I'll work more hours. more money for me.. How would everyone else deal with this. By the way I had 5 employees plus me, but it was a crazy schedule because they were all in college, and one girl was 24 and never really had a job in her life, which I find rather sad I'm 24 also and have my own business for almost 2 years. go figure |

Rep Power: 0 | She definately took advantage of you being gone. I understand if she needed an advance on her pay but there is no excuse for her not asking you about it first. Especially since it is not common practice for you to do this. Problem is, now that you have lost faith in her you will always wonder what else she might be doing. |

Rep Power: 28 | Well I know I am to easy on my employees, especially after being on the boards and talking with people at the show. But I do allow my employees to make IOUs I can trust them completely with this as one has been with me 4 years and always writes a check for the amount and asks to hold til payday. She is the best employee we have had. Now if this is something that you do not practice I can see where you may worry. It is strange that this has never come up until you are out of town. |

Rep Power: 24 | Yeah Allison... she took advantage of you big time. I would never imagine helping myself to money and saying "Oh just take it out of my pay." And you were but a phone call away... doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out doll. She stole from you clear and simple. Thing is, she better be thanking her lucky stars you didn't call the cops on her for theft... after all you have the written proof. Ever think of going to the local community college and letting them know you have a couple of part-time positions open? Just a thought... might save you some heartache to get someone with a brain in there for awhile. |

Rep Power: 23 | I would never allow this either! I can't believe she didn't ask, she just took it? I mean I think I am quite leniant with some of my staff as we are all close in age and some of us are friends (I am 25) but they would never even think about doing this! Even when they need $1 or something they will call me first. You did the right thing, that is stealing, note or not. Good idea about inquiring at the local colleges, a lot of people there probably looking for part-time work. Stacey |
