do it your self, and ask do you understand? Then you won't hear "well I thought it was hows its done or so and so told me".Always ask do you understand? They you won't get so many excuses.

I have tried both ways when training employees (in any field or task).I find that the only time I like other employees to be trained by someone other than myself is when I find someone who does exactly as I would do if I were there. Otherwise, I'm going back and retraining anyway. Since it's often so difficult to find employees with our exact same drive and philosophies, it's easier to simply train them myself. It saves a lot time, frustration and speculation as to what the "boss really wants."

I have one employee that has been with me for 3-1/2 years, she know what I want and when I want it, so she does training for me. She treats the place like it is hers and she respects what we are all about.

We do a little of both. I train initially, so that they get a good idea of my expectations. But, I also have them work with each one of my other emplyees, even if it is just for an hour or two. Everyone has their style of dealing with customers and selling products, and I think it is a good idea to let someone knew work with different people to see how each one does it - always a little differently. That way, until they find a style of their own, they have a lot of information to fall back on. This has also opened my eyes to a few problems. The new person would come to me and say so-and-so is saying this, but you told me that. Now I can correct so-and-so, and make sure that everyone understands the products, and that we are all on the same page.
