Yellow Pages are an absolute necessity for some businesses and totally unnecessary for others. As a salon owner you are the only one who can judge the importance of Yellow page advertising. *Do your customers use the Yellow Pages to get your phone number and address?*Do tanning salon customers consult the yellow pages to find tanning salons?*Will advertising in the Yellow Pages build your business?*How does you competitors handle their Yellow Page advertising?Although, most tanning salons are built on drive-bys, referrals and location the money our company has spent with Yellow Pages has truly paid off. We run a coupon in the coupon section and other than our referral program we receive more of the coupons than we usually do on any other mailout promotion.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

We had also been running the coupn in our yellow pages along with our regular ad, but the prices kept going UP and UP and UP! Finally, this year I pulled the coupon. It had gotten to the point where that ad was almost 1/2 of our phone bill every month. We started doing advertising on the back of register tapes from the large chain super markets in the area. This has worked really well for us. And...I can change the ad everytime it comes out, (about every 2-3 months) which I can't do with the yellow pages. It seems like by the time our ad appeared in the new yellow pages, we had new equipment or something and the ad was already outdated!!! So then I was spending an entire year paying for an ad that wasn't really doing us justice!

SBB,It truly is location, location I guess. We tried the grocery store receipts also in two different areas of our community. Our ad tracking showed that only 3 coupons were used in our salons after running it 6 months. I just received a call from my sales person with the company I used and had to pass up the deal this time. Our direct mailing, valupak coupons, yp coupons, and referrals have proof to be the life of our advertising. We usually have a billboard or two each year although there is no real way of tracking what percentage of customers were brought in by them. We do have a section on our forms that ask "How were you referred" but most people overlook that area or just mark other without elaborating.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation

I think the yellow page coupons bring in the most new customers. When a new client comes in 9 out of 10 times they either have a coupon from the yellow pages with them or they tell us that they saw our add in there. I think the the yellow page coupons are a great idea.------------------Jean BolesSandollar Corporation
