What is your policy on employees tanning?What is your policy on temps tanning? In hiring employees it is usually easy to receive a big response to a employment ad. Everyone wants to work in a tanning salon. The only problem for us so far has been finding people who want to work as well as tan. Most apply for the "free" tanning and because we require employees to represent us by having a tan it is hard to make anyone pay for the tan, even at a discount doesn't seem fair. However, we have tossed around the idea that temps only tan on days they work. This may decrease employee call outs as well as deter people that took the job "just to tan". We give every employee 1 free tan per week, and then allow them to purchase more for next to nothing. They are free to use their sessions at anytime. We have found that this reduces the chances of hiring someone who only wants the FREE tanning benefits.------------------John W. from Neon Beach Tanning

I let me employees tan for free. I ask that they tan in different beds so that they can give me feedback since they get to tan more often than I do. One of my employees disregards what I say & she tans in whatever she wants to. (Superbeds every day, etc.) BI give them a stash of lotion for their use & if they want something different I'll sell it to them at a discount. This same employee helps herself to cups that I have made up to sell. Why do people have to be so ungrateful & take advantage of the situation?

We let our employees tan for free in the regular beds. We charge for upgrades and lotions but give them discounts. We give them the same prices as we do our members. They are happy. Ever so often after a busy day we will reward them with a free upgrade.

My year round employees are allowed to tan for free once a day if they choose. My bed cleaners which are my temporary help are allowed to tan twice a week for free, and get a 50% discount on additional sessions..

are you guys crazy? what if they work part time, which most do, you will allow them to tan 7 times a week? I'm with Neon, one free tan a week and then super cheap for any bed or spray after that. You are not in business for young employees you are in business to make money.
Ginger............should I even go there? Are you going to do something about that employee? Isn't that stealing?

yeah, my staff is able to tan for free in any level of bed. I feel if they have to pay for it, they won't tan and in the type of business that we have I think they need to be tan...
I don't think they take advantage of it... they definately don't tan every day and I've never put limitations on it. I guess if I see a problem down the road I can always deal with those issues then...
