I was thinking about implementing a referral system. I was wondering if this has worked for others, and what did you give the customer for the referral?

YES IT DOES WORK!!We offer $20 in "Sandollars" (in house credit) to be placed on the clients account for every referral. There is not a limit to how many times they can participate in the program. Our clients love this, they can use the Sandollars for service and products. They only place they are not able to use this is for their monthly membership. We have a referral card that has a free visit on one side and a discount for $10 off the membership sign up fee. It is a wonderful progam to add to your business. I have noticed more response with our referral program than any form of advertising we use. If you would like to email me with your address I will be happy to mail you a copy of our referral card.[This message has been edited by Tonya Crick (edited December 14, 2000).]

The referral program is one of the best selling membership programs we have. Just give out the cards and let your customers (and their great tan) do the selling for you. Nothing sells better that happy customers.

Tonya - Is your $20.00 in "sanddollars" equivilent to $20. actual $ ? If so is'nt that a huge loss for you if they refer alot of people. I agree it is a great idea to reward your clients with referals but that seems high. I was thinking like giving them extra minutes to thier next package purchase (so you are not selling yourself short because tan cost per minute is a lot cheaper than losing $20) Let me know how you do it and if it is worth it! Thanks,

Fabugirl,We give them $20 in "Sand Dollars" which can be spent in our stores only. We looked at how much money we were spending on advertising and felt we would rather pay our customers instead of the local media. We still do local media but felt like our several members ( at that time ) was a sales force we needed to compensate for them to sell the product they were already using. We went from a few hundred people the year we began this compensation to around 2500 members. This year we should hit 6000+ members.Michael

I like our referral with $20 in "sandollars." It really helps with the sale of a lot of the more expensive lotions, and after trying the better lotions, they are more apt to spend the same amount next time even without the extra $20.

I agree with Anthony, the 20 makes the customer more apt to try something that they wouldn't usually try. Then, once they know the expensive lotion is good they will continue to buy it.
