Rep Power: 0 | Just curious about how you can get more employee participation. I recently had my last employee meeting and I asked everyone to bring in their ideas. Low and behold I have received no input. Is this a common thing for most salons? I just don't want our meetings to be so one sided. Any ideas?Roxanne |

Rep Power: 0 | Roxanne,It has been difficult for us as well during resorts meetings to get employees involved. Not sure why that is except they probably feel that this is just "another meeting" that is taken up their time. We began incentive programs such as employee of the month, resort of the month, Top sales person or resort, Most improved, etc. What ever you want your clerks to stride for then make a contest of it and reward them with an appreciation award, gift certificates to movies, rest., in house credit, bottle of their favorite lotion, etc. Merchants in our area are eager to trade out which is where you can get alot of your prizes from.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation |

Rep Power: 0 | thanks tracie for the good advice. I can assure you that I will be trying some of your suggestions. Wasting their time is right, even though they get paid and rewarded for their efforts. Why is that? happy tanning thanks again!Roxanne |

Rep Power: 0 | Roxanne,I would like to add to this post a suggestion followed by reasons. I don't want employees to feel as if we are wasting their time. On the contrary! If your employees are not fully trained and informed they can certainly waste their time and yours by not being constantly up-to-date on specials, events, or policy changes. We make our meetings mandatory. Employees are paid for their time. This meeting is used to discuss up coming advertising that is absolutely of interest to your staff for they will be the ones honoring the discounts and coupons. We discuss new company policies. We recently omitted our Medical leave pay and opted to pay half the premium towards an Aflac Short term disability policy for fulltime employees who are interested. We discuss new lotion lines, swimwear, software changes, service changes, rate changes, etc... There is so much to keep on top of that if they miss what is being taught then they do themselves as well as the salon an injustice. When a problem does arise that you must speak with an employee on then the usual response will be "I didn't know". If you make your meetings mandatory there is no reason for them to not know.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation |

I also have them take smart tanning quizzes that we receive in the mail and they do get rewards for each correct answer. We are all Smart Tan certified.retty much everything that you said I do. Sounds similar to my meetings anyway. I also take them to lotion training at least twice a year. It just seems that what I say sometimes goes in one ear and out the other. One other thing that I am in the habbit of doing is keeping a copy of the meetings in a three ring binder with the dates of the meeting and what we discussed in the salon at all times, so as not to have a response from an employee as to " I didn't know that." They just do not have a chance for an excuse with a copy of it in the salon at all times.Roxanne |

Rep Power: 0 | Roxanne,Great Idea!! I keep records of or meetings as well. If there is a time in between meetings that the staff needs to be updated on something I send out a memo in regards to the new info but I also state that each clerk read and initial the memo. Once everyone has done that then the memo returns to my office to be filed. So, when a clerk "didn't know" I simply pull the sheet out and find their signature. If they signed it without reading it then that will come to light at that moment.------------------Tracie WilliamsSandollar Corporation |
