Rep Power: 0 | WE HAVEN'T REALLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH BAD CHECKS. I HAD 1 IN A YEAR, AND CALLED THE LADY UP AT HOME. I CHARGED HER $25.00 FOR BOUNCING THE CHECK. IT WAS ONLY FOR $6.00I REALLY DON'T THINK THERE IS A BIG PROBLEM, MOST PEOPLE USE CREDIT CARDS TODAY, AND IF THEY DO BOUNCE A CHECK I WOULD CALL EVERY TANNING SALON IN TOWN AND TELL THEM. THAT PERSON WOULD BE BLACK BALD FROM TANNING.EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE OTHER TANNING SALONS IN OUR AREA(ALOT) I WOULD THINK WE WOULD ALL STICK TOGETHER ON A ISSUE LIKE THIS. I HAVE ALREADY CALLED ANOTHER SALON AND TOLD THEM THAT ONE OF THEIR EMPLOYES WERE STEALING FROM THEM. THEY KEPT AN EYE ON THAT EMPLOYEE, AND SURE ENOUGH THEY CALLED AND THANKED ME. I WOULD HOPE IF SOMEONE NEW THAT WAS GOING AROUND THEY WOULD CALL ME. |

Rep Power: 23 | Does anyone NOT accept personal checks? Just got all my credit card approvals and my rep advised me not to accept checks. She says since there is an ATM very close, if anyone needs to they can use credit card or get cash from ATM. What is your experience and what do you think?Kathy |

Rep Power: 0 | I know I don't write checks for anything besides paying bills. I always use my credit cards or bank card for all purchases. I just don't see the need to pay for a check service unless we start having problems. |

Rep Power: 28 | I would suggest not using a service. We did that the first year and it was a nightmare. There was a big percentage of the checks that were never collected, or at least we never recieved the money for them and also, they had told us that we would not be charged for the service that the check writer would be paying for the fee, WRONG, they took a percent of the check that they did collect. I don't have a lot of problems now but I can at least collect on the bad checks. Do it yourself if at all possible. |

Rep Power: 24 | In 4 years we have had maybe 5 checks bounce. 3 of the people came in immediately to make amends (and fearfully asked if they were still able to tan, to which I said 'yes') and 2 of them were outstanding. As a last resort, you can take the check to the bank it was drawn on and if the money is in there then, they will honor it, even if it is months later. For the most part tanning salons don't encounter alot of bad checks because people buy packages and the packages are usually not used up before the check bounces. Therefore, they still have to face you. We passed on doing the check service route. btw, we charge $25 plus any bank fees plus the original amount of the check. |

Rep Power: 0 | At 'The Cowboy Bar' in Jackson Hole, WY they have 3-4 bad checks on display near the front door. Under a heading of 'deadbeat customers'. I thought it was in poor taste but never thought about it being illegal! Thanks for the infor Laurie. |
