Rep Power: 23 | Mimi Rosenberg of Celsius Tannery Salons says We've been given the opportunity to open Celcuis Tannery Salons in Wal-mart Supercenters nationwide. We Feel this is a first in our industry and it helps to raise the level of the tanning industry to the highest degree. Is this going to be good for your salon? |

Rep Power: 0 | I think it is good that wal-mart would even consider letting in Tanning Salons. I dont believe it would go over very well with the clients. Most of our clients like the privacy we have to offer.I would the overhead would be so high that most walmart shoppers would walk away. But who knows till you try. I really dont think it would hurt. There is a salon close by most walmarts in our area already |

Rep Power: 27 | I really don't think it is good for the industry as a whole. If walmart starts tanning salons, then with their buying power they will hurt all the local salons, with the product lines. I DON'T WANT THEM!!! |

Rep Power: 0 | Well I don't know about everybody elses walmart but the one's around here are nasty! The bathrooms especially. So I think they would need to stress to their employees to start taking care of the rest of the building b/f they go and put tanning salons in. Has there been a test pilot yet? It makes me a little nervous. I have an untapped market and I plan to open this December and we are getting a new Super Walmart around the same time. OH SH*T! |

Rep Power: 23 | I wouldn't think the customers would get any special treatment or recognition in a Wal Mart.Knowing your customers by name, talking with them, the special perks that we do for them make a difference.I have learned in a short time too that most people tan where they are familiar with the owner and environment. Creatures of habit and I don't believe that a Wal Mart would make them feel at home and comfortable.Melissa |

Rep Power: 27 | Also, most people would rather tan in an enviorment that is not so slammed with the public to see them come out all hot and sweaty, I have clients that will come in the mornings in their pjs. Do you think they would feel this comfy in walmart... |

Rep Power: 23 | Now wait a minute.... you don't for one second think that a serious, educated, long time tanner like you or I would ever tan at a Walmart, do you???So, will you lose a genuine client? NO!But, please for one moment look on the potential bright side of this... let me paint you the picture... so go along with me for just a minute.A woman who has never tanned before walks into her local Super Walmart. She sees the new tanning offered and thinks to herself "Why not?" So she goes in, buys her bargain tan, maybe some cheap crappy lotion and tans a full twenty. She comes out fried, her eyes hurt from lack of proper eye protection. However, a few days later... she's back at Wally World again and decides to give the bed another whirl. She's now addicted. However, she's starting to wonder if all this burning is necessary. Or she eventually hits her plateau because either her crappy lotion stops working or the lamps on the bed haven't been changed in ages. Maybe her eyes are killing her or she's gotten some bug from nasty goggles. Whatever the reason, what will her next decision be? To quit tanning? No way Jose'! Walmart, if nothing else recruited someone who normally might not have EVER walked into your salon. They've hooked someone on tanning and now their next step is to FIND YOU! Congratulations... now don't screw it up! What Walmart so effortlessly did, you will long term benefit from it. Maybe Walmart will do it and it will stick. Maybe they will do it and it won't work. Maybe they won't do it at all....Either way, I still see the competent salon owners coming out on top. Remember... people like you and I don't stop patronizing you to tan at Walmart. We never have and we never will. Relax and wait for the flood, but be prepared for it![ August 10, 2001: Message edited by: Bronze Star ] |
