Poorly managed salons....

I read this yesterday and it angered me.

Are your staff members setting a good image for your salon?

TenT Goes Tanning. Shame Ensues.

I hate sunscreen. Hate it. This has led to many miserable days while on vacation in warm climates. Last year in Mexico I got so badly sunburned that I couldn't even put a shirt on the next day. I know, poor me.

Anyway, I'm going on vacation again soon and wanted to avoid burning. My coworkers convinced me that everyone goes tanning before they go on vacation. The idea being that if I get a decent base tan, I won't burn to quickly. The science seemed sound, I guess.

So I set off in search of a tanning place. I know they're called tanning salons, but that sounds a little fruity. Tanning place it is.

I was driving along and saw a sign for iBeach 24-hour tanning. It sounded promising. I pulled up in front of the building and shut off my car. Just then, a teenage boy wearing a name tag (who I presume was an employee) cracked open the door and hawked a loogie onto the sidewalk. It was gross. I started my car and left.

A few blocks later (****in' things are everywhere!) I found another tanning place called Caribbean Beach, which I thought sounded fancy. I parked my car and actually got out this time. When I got into the place, I was horrified. It smelled funny, like massage oil and shame, and there were teenage girls everywhere. They all appeared to be waiting. What? There's a wait to go tanning? I pulled my phone from my pocket, pretended I had just received an urgent call, and got my *** out of there. It was really a sad spectacle. A grown man fleeing a tanning salon place in fear. Shameful, I know.

I had to stop at a sporting goods store on my way home, just to cleanse my psyche.

When it comes to tanning, the cost is not worth the benefit.

Sadly, that is the way it is, with many salons. But...

There is much to learn from the post. If you can read between the lines.

Re: Poorly managed salons....

The guy already had a negative impression on indoor tanning before he even set out.

Other than the boy spitting out the door, the other salon was busy, and good on them...

I could see being concerned if he actually went into one of the salons, spoke to the attendant and was given misleading information, but he didn't so from what i read this is just a guy who is going to continue to burn on his vacation because he doesn't take the time to read up on the benefits or to actually go into a slaon and ask them questions.

Not worth the comments....

There are tons fewer of poorly run salons now than when I first got started. Some of the salons or tanning places I use to deliever were BAD.
1 Salon I sold lamps to, I would not even go in to. Left the lamps on the Deck.

He never wanted to tan. Who cares what he thinks.

This guy really has some issues.

"know they're called tanning salons, but that sounds a little fruity"

"It smelled funny, like massage oil and shame, and there were teenage girls everywhere."

He was afraid he looked effeminate going into a tanning salon. Dude needs to lighten up.

Re: Poorly managed salons....

Clearly a crappy employee was working the first salon.

And the second, he was not acknowledged by a welcoming staff when he walked in. My staff would not have let him stand there long enough to think twice and feel slighted.

He started out with a questionable impression of tanning places---BUT this was very avoidable. These were TWO missed opportunities for these salons.

Re: Poorly managed salons....

I take this jokers blog and comments about as seriously as I take Global Warming. First the guy constantly gets "so badly sunburned that he can't even put on his shirt", but won't wear a sunscreen. Whats that tell you about his lack of good judgment? Then Mr. Salon Sounds Too Fruity, gets grossed out by spitting, massage oil and shame...lol, I guess he never walked into a 7-11 or a a bar either. Forget this clown. He's just another example of Blogger with way too much time on his hands.

Yeah, he had a bad attitude from the get-go. I really don't think ANY salon would have suited him :(
