Rep Power: 28 | When I bought my salon 4 years ago, the previous owner supplied goggles for the tanners. I kept this policy in effect and also started selling them for those that wanted their own. Now I am thinking of taking the freebies away and have them purchase their own. Be it goggles or viewkeepers. How would you approach this issue without upsetting the clients. I know I should stress the sanitary reasons, but once something has be one way for years it is a battle to change. all response is appreciated. |

Rep Power: 23 | I'm fighting the same battle. Unfortunately under TX law I'm required to provide eyewear. But, lately I've been pushing pretty hard to sell it. We are going to have a customer appreciation day on Sept. 30 and raffle prizes. One of the main prizes will be eyewear. I figure maybe if I give it to them I can wean them off of thinking that we will provide it. |

Rep Power: 23 | TX law says that I must provide it for free and that it must be close to any tanning device. I know a lot of salons in my area are not doing this. They are trying to get people to buy it, but allowing others to borrow it. I guess I need to figure out the best way to do this. |

Rep Power: 23 | Darktanman - Yes, I am positive that TX requires that you provide eyewear. If you are in TX, please read the code in detail. The Health Department came to visit us last week and reiterated that this is a requirement. You can sell it, but if the customer does not have any, you are required to provide it for them. |

Rep Power: 0 | I resisted for 3 years! My distributor had 2 salons in a small market and would only sell eye wear. We started last January (2001) - we gave a couple of weeks warning and explained that is was for our protection as well as the clients. "There was a case of pink-eye going around, and the only way to assure that it was not transmitted in the salon was to eliminate public eye wear." We don't ask if they want eye wear, we ask them what color eye wear they want. Why not make a couple grand selling them than spend a few hundred supplying them! Bartman |
