Lotion Sales--HELP!!!! - tanTALK

I've been in the industry for two years, and recently, I have found that my sales are slipping. People are flat out cheap in this town, but there's gotta be SOME sort of way to get them to come in here and buy lotion.

Some of these people don't use lotion, and refuse to listen to why they should. And no matter how many times I tell them they need to alternate their lotions, they don't listen. I'm afraid someone may have lied to them before about a lotion and now they're scared to buy anything at all.

Anyways, I need some good techniques... What do y'all suggest?!?!

Put a little of lotion on there arm and let them tan. let them see result.

Get your distributor to train you. They usually have someone that will do that. I am an `ole caltan girl so we still have Step 1, Step 2, and always Step 3. in our minds. What price point are you trying to sell to them? Always start with the highest lotion you have and then come down. This makes them feel like they are getting a better deal. Everything is always on sale. No matter how much. :)

Unfortunately, we can't do that. We sell samples, however. But even getting them to try something new is hard.

I don't go for any certain price point, but a lotion that fits their needs. We have EFTs here and they get discounts, as well as students get 25% off lotions. You would think more students would buy with that discount, considering we have lotions ranging from $17.98-$110.

These clients sound like the Dos Equis guy... "I don't always buy tanning lotion, but when I do, I go for the cheapest one." lol

I also just attended a training session in Indianapolis at the beginning of the month. I've tried everything possible, but I feel like the real problem out here is people refuse to use lotion, or they just don't have the money.

Try to talk about the positives the lotion will and can provide (not just color). Do not think of it as a "Right here, right now" kind of thing. If you are having problems selling to the majority, you may have to refocus your efforts on (re)educating them first.

I find the vast amount of people just do not know why they should bother using it. That "They tan better without it" (thats my favorite one lol). It may take like 2 or 3 tans for me to break someones walls down, but sooner or later you can find the right way way to convince them to give it a try.

You do mention a good idea... Maybe I won't strictly focus on lotions giving "good color" and start studying more of their other features. Thanks!

Still open to more suggestions!
