Frozen lotions...?

I had a client come in and told me his lotion froze because he left it in his car and asked if it was still good or if by it freezing that the ingredients would loose some of their " properties"?
It being the weekend I couldn't get a hold of the distributer, so I thought I would ask in here. I did not want to give the person the wrong info. I gave him a sample lotion packet and told him I would try to get the correct answer to him by Monday afternoon.
I, myself wouldn't think it would matter if it froze and then thawed out. If anything I would think it maybe could separate, but giving it a good shake should solve that issue, if it is , indeed an issue...???
If anyone could help asnwer this I would appreciate it !
Thanks and I hope you all have a SAFE, HEALTH, HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!
Ricky

Re: Frozen lotions...?

It "Denatures" the ingredients. Here is the definition for you to pass on..
Heat exposure is worse that freezing.

Re: Frozen lotions...?

Hi CrystalSS, and Thank You for that info. I am still not too sure what to tell my client but I will ask my distributer Monday morning/afternoon. He, my client, told me that he used the lotion Sunday, and he said he really couldn't tell a difference in a bad way, the bronzers (DHA) still gave him added color and he still got good color after his session, and he also said the lotion still smelled lke it always did, so I am not sure if the accelerators still did their job ( Tyrosine, Unipertan etc...) but thanks again!
Have a great day and week !!!

Re: Frozen lotions...?

I spoke with my distributer today and he said, " If anything, the lotion may be not as thick, but all the ingredients will still perform the way they are supposed to. After it is thawed out just shake it very well and it will be fine. "

He also went on to mention that during this time of year lotions sit on UPS of FedEx trucks for hours and sometimes arrive at their destinations half or fully frozen. He then said to just let them thaw out naturally, do NOT put them in the microwave or in a hot water bath, and when they are thawed out just shake them very good and they will be just fine.

I was glad to hear this. I felt bad for my client who had spent quite some money on his lotion and had only used it about a dozen times. I was afraid if the lotion would have gone bad from being frozen he would have been out all that money he paid for it.

So that's it, just in case this issue hapens to anyone else, there's your answer.

Thanks again for reading and responding.

Have a great week!

Ricky
