Facial Moisterizer...

OK so this really has nothing to do with tanning per say, but i was ust wondering if anyone knew of a good face lotion (not a tanning lotion or bronzer. Something for everyday...a moisterizer). I'm 27 and breaking out like i'm 16!!! I think that it might be the lotion i use (generic Olay Total Care or something like that....not sure of the name) I want something that i can find in the drug store, not super expensive. I know that designer stuff would be better, but not in the budget right now. I have oily/combo skin, but have to use a lotion to keep the oil under control. Any ingrediants that i need to look for or beware of? I just can't find anything that i like!!

Re: Facial Moisterizer...

Although a " moisturizer " can cause breakouts it is typically not the product so much as it is that your pores are clogging up from being blocked and then it causes acne. You need to get a good face product to not only clean your face with but one that is meant to keep pores unblocked. Something "non-comedogenic." You don't have to spend large amounts of money for a decent face scrub or cleanser. Or you can go get 1-2 micro-dermabrasion treatments to open pores back up. Things that really block pores for women are makeup, spray tans , and heavy face products, greasy foods. Make sure you are completely cleaning off all make-up at night to include a light exfolliating scrub twice a week or daily in the shower. So many women have switched to mineral makeups because they do not clog your pores. Eating a lot of rich, greasy or fatty foods will also cause intermittent break outs. Hormones as well. But, at your age it sounds like your pores are getting clogged by something you are using. Best Wishes

I use cetaphil facial wash and it works great to keep the face cleared up. It is non comedogenic. As far as a facial moisturizer I use Crystal Faces by AG every day even if I am not tanning and it does not make me break out.

Re: Facial Moisterizer...

Since you have oily combination skin that itself maybe causing the problem because what may be happening is the oils that are clogging your pores have bacteria that causes infections like acne, but it could also be other things to like the product you are using, change in diet or body changes most women dont realize it but there skin begins to change at about the age of 25. I would start with a new cleanser and toner first.
I would recommend something that is gentle that has natural extracts in it that reduce bacteria, like hops extract. Hops extracts are known to be natural anti biotics known as (Humulus & Lupulus) that fight against gram positive acid fast bacteria build up in the skin this is the same bacteria that is found in acne and rosacia. Also try to pick a cleanser that can help increase your skins own moisture content so you can cut down on the amount of facial moisturizer you use here are some great natural ingredients to look for. Hydrolyzed wheat protein is a peptide that acts on the cells of epidermis and dermis that utilizes a unique hydrating complex to provide natural moisture balancing and film forming properties to the skin to help increase and seal moisture in the skin and it works great for moisturization especially in wash of products. Since you most likely tan alot sage extract and vitamin E would be good to look for also. And since you are only 27 and tan alot stay away from the heavy exfoliating products you really dont need them at 27 a good gentle cleanser everyday will do the trick.
As far as the toner look for alot of natural ingredients that can also work as anti bacterial and microbials like Castor and Camphor oils along with a high levels of aloe and glycerine to help out with moisturization so you can cut down on how much moisturizer you use to help keep your pores clear. And if you are going to use a facial moisturizer I would recommend somthing light and easy to absorb that is not greasy or form a film on the outside of your skin.At 27 you dont need anyting to fancy look for aloe, vitamin E, vegetable glycerin some other great ingredients for moisture would be grape seed oil because it has been know to help control the moisture content in the skin and to help maintain and support the normal structure of the cell membranes which is critical to keeping overall skin health.Vitamin B5 would be great because it has been known to naturally help reduce the skins own water loss levels and since you tan alot green tea would be great for its anit oxidant properties. Also take a look at your makeup remover if you use one if it happens to have a alot of mineral oil or petrolatum in it make sure you wash it all off after you use it. Those ingredient to not absorb into the skin well and have been said to clog the pores

Hi,

The best method for protecting your skin is to check the ingredients of the products you buy, and favor products that use natural ingredients. Also, look for products whose ingredients reflect what your skin already contains, as these tend to be the most beneficial. For example, collagen is a natural component of skin that gives it its firmness; if you are able to find a product that contains collagen, and excludes parabens, you are likely to see advantages from its use.
