Rep Power: 0 | What Will I Need? Umm, I want to a get a good natural sun tan and I want to make sure I do this right and protect my skin. What items will I need that I can pick up at the local wal-mart/store? What are some good affordable items? Like should I start exfoliating a few days before I start my tan? Also how long should I stay out in the sun. Like 30 minutes tanning the front side of my body and then 30 minutes tanning the back of my body? |

Your best bet will be to visit a local tanning salon so you can get good controlled UV exposure, limiting your chances of burning. I am sure others will chime in also. =) |

Your local dermaterrorist can respond to that question with a bunch of nonsense and junk science, and sell you some of his/her specialized services, if your insurance covers it. If you're interested in having a good tan, please do yourself a favor and visit with your local indoor tanning prfessionals. They know how to help you get it right, the first time, without the wasting your money or your time. Hope this helps. Good luck.

"A number by which sunscreen users can determine the duration of effectiveness simply by multiplying the SPF by time it takes them to burn without sunscreen." Untanned and unprotected skin can start the "burning" process in as little as 4 minutes on a Caucasian person. So an SPF 5 would protect a person like this for 20 minutes. Make sense?

Rep Power: 29 | Re: What Will I Need? SPF doesn't do anything. Gradual tanning is the only way to not burn. SPF stunts your body's response to the UVB exposure but THAT'S IT. UVA and every other UV band is still hitting ya and your body is just sitting there not doing anything thanks to ol SPF. Buying at walmart with guarantee that you are getting a product with the WORST possible fillers like INDUSTRIAL WASTE and SPF ingredients that are known CARCINOGENS that cause SKIN CANCER. Or you can buy a bottle of decent stuff from the local tanning salon and not have to worry about that nonsense. |
