Re: Itchy and Red just on the belly

As a male with a larger belly, I can say I had the red itchy stomach when I first started. I was also too proud to use lotion.

I had it to a lesser degree on the tops of my thighs in the beginng.

It never really felt like a burn and I never peeled. Lotion and time got me past it.

Re: Itchy and Red just on the belly

I have customers who break out in a rash after being exposed in the bed. Once they build up their tan, this usually stops. Here is what we discovered the problem is. Depending on the type of lamps you use, most have UVB rays. UVB rays turn the skin red. My sister always breaks out with these bumps and it is usually just confined to her stomach and chest. DS makes a lotion called HALO, it has UVB inhibitors, that block the UVB rays. My problem customers use this lotion and swear by it! Another thing he can do is wet a towel and cover the area, until the bumps go away. Using something like Benadryl can help relieve the itching as well, after tanning of course. When my sister and other customers started with this rash, we also thought they were reacting to the bed cleaner, but we tried using water after the bed cleaner and they still broke out. We discovered the problem after reading an article in Tanning Trends, about the UVB rays. Even though he only has the bumps on his stomach, some areas of the skin are more sensitive than others, and it's usually the parts that don't get much exposure to the natural sun. We always keep HALO in stock, along with samples so customers don't have to deal with this itchy situation!

The tWo DOES NOT APPROVE of this post due to the poor lamp description to emphasize a lotion ad.

The reason is your belly will burn is because it's positioned under the strongest part of the tanning lamps. Right in the center. That's it.

Re: Itchy and Red just on the belly

i recently started at a tanning salon and broke out with a horrendous rash. i think it's sun poisoning. although i never had a problem in the past with sensitive skin, i have one now.

i have decided to stay out of the bed until it heals and start back slowly again.... i didn't jump right in... only 6 minutes on a saturday, monday and thursday. but still i think it was too much given the fact that i am pasty pale and don't usuallly go in the sun at all....

Re: Itchy and Red just on the belly

My post is not an ad for LOTION and I have no idea what you are trying to say about poor description of lamps. It is FACT that some lamps have UVB rays and that is what some people react to when breaking out in a rash. If you read the original post, the problem is not just about burning, but bumps as well. If I didn't know what I was talking about, I wouldn't have commented. The FACT is that I have a sister and customers who have experienced the same problem. Most have mild cases, but there are those who suffer from this, not just in beds, but in the sun as well. A close friend of mine suffers from this so much that she use to go to a salon with a bronzing speed bed which cost her $35 a pop, because she was allergic to UVB rays but she also breaks out like this in the sun. She has used the lotion I mentioned before and it does help. Besides, isn't this forum called "LOTION BUZZ"?

Re: Itchy and Red just on the belly

hey friend, all tanning lamps have UVB. There are no lamps that are completely 100% UVA. All of this is besides the point.

The is usually a spot on everyone's bodies that is more sensitive to the UV exposure. Back, belly, throat, face, chest, whatever.

In this case, the stomach was having the problems of over exposure. IN THIS CASE it is most likely due to the lamps being the strongest in the stomach area and or the stomach being sensitive to UV.

Your answer to use the HALO is a good one as it does have UVB inhibitors, although the tWo doesn't usually recommend SPF in the tanning bed as it defeats the purpose of tanning in doors and would recommend spending less time under the lamps instead of applying SPF.

Two is wrong if he recommends not using spf in a bed. Halo was a huge seller in our salon for light/pale skinned clients. Not only did they not burn, but got tan. Halo not only has spf 4 which is very low but also has bronzers. And not recommending spf to clients is a bad idea. I work at a tanning salon and I use spf everytime I tan. Guess what, I'm still very dark and only tan 1-2 times a week.

My face is very sinsitive and that is why I use spf on it, also I use spf on my tattoo. It does not prevent me from tanning. The key is to use a very low spf like spf4. This will not stop you from tanning.
