Question When to use tingle

Another quick question. I havent tanned in about 6 months so I am pretty pale. Would using a mild tingle at this point be a waste? Should I wait til I have a nice base built up?

Re: When to use tingle

The "tingle" in a tingle product is designed to increase blood flow to the dermis during and after the tanning exposure. This additional blood flow helps to accellerate the tanning process over and beyond what would be achieved normally. Different products have different things to cause "the tingle" and varying levels of intensity, so I suggest asking your salon for a mild to medium tingle product to try out first and decide if your skin can handle it. I always recommend tingle products to tanners at every level of their tan. Hope this helps!Good luck. -Belvy

I don't recommend them to beginners but only to those with an established base. They can be excellent plateau busters.

I am a tingle freak.
I would wait until you have some color, but not like a month after. A good starter tingle is Rock Star from DS.

Re: When to use tingle

I like a really good tingle -- like Matahari Envy My Forbidden Fire -- and use a squirt in a deep bronzer. That way I can control the tingle each time I tan! Some days I love the heat, others, I need more bronze ...

I tried the JA Ultraviolet when I first began tanning (skin type 2) after trying several other products and having minimal tanning results. The tingle level in the Ultraviolet was mild enough that it didn't "hurt" (like some others I had tried with tingle) and produced noticebly better tanning results for me with each session.

Ever since then, I have recommended tingle products to every customer. It can be tricky finding the right level for the customer based on their skin sensitivity, but their tanning results are noticebly better with tingle products versus non-tingle. ;)

Re: When to use tingle

But also Belvy, a person can build up a tolerance to tingles but still get the same results.
Like what i did. In order the tingles i used.
1. Rock Star 2. Smolder 3. Mojo Dark Tanning Sauce 4. Shrine 5. Firewalker 6. Back down to Shrine.

And now after going in that order (each level gets hotter) i can BARELY feel like the tingle or burning sensation anymore. (accustomed with HOT tingles, like shrine)
And if you do use tingles, make sure you dont rub your eyes, like i just did. OWWWW my eye is burning!! OWWW! NO for real, OWW,

Re: When to use tingle

You raise a good point. The skin can develop a tolerance to a specific tingle component if used often and for a long enough period of time to where you don't "feel" the tingle effect, but you notice the redness due to the increased blood flow. The dermis is an adaptive organ and will adjust to the environment if it has time and ability to respond. And don't touch your eyes or other mucous glands until you have washed your hands. Thanks for bringing that up MM. Hope this helps. Good luck. -Belvy :glasses:
