Re: What ingeredients do what?

Tyrosine has nothing to do with it. Just think If a lotion you put on your skin can damage acrylic what do you think it is doing to your skin?

Re: What ingeredients do what?

I don't mean to throw a wet blanket in here but Tyrosine is "thought" to help stimulate and increase melanin formation. As far as I know, no accredited study has ever been done to confirm this supposition. There are other industry claims that could use some verification as well... tingles, amino acids, vitamin C, etc.

Also the only ingredient in lotions that are harmful to acrylics is mineral oil.

Re: What ingeredients do what?

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin needed for the growth and repair of tissues in all parts of the body. Vitamin C is one of many antioxidants. Antioxidants are nutrients that block some of the damage caused by free radicals,

Mineral oil

[ACGIH 1991; Hathaway et al. 1991]. Many studies confirm that mineral oil can induce skin and scrotal cancers after prolonged, repeated, and heavy direct contact with the skin [ACGIH 1991]. In addition, repeated dermal exposures may result in dermatitis [Genium 1985]

Mineral oil acts as a thin plastic layer on the skin. It is difficult to absorb and clogs the pores, which slows the skin's ability to eliminate toxins. Remember, the skin is the body's largest organ and plays an important role in maintaining overall health.

re: Vitamin C.. That is true Kay, but only if ingested, not rubbed on. In other words, the only significant good it does is if you eat a lotion with Vitamin C.

Preliminary studies, including a double-blind, placebo-controlled study, have found that cream containing vitamin C produces positive changes in sun-damaged skin.

Re: What ingeredients do what?

So basically the way I read all of this. If I tan lotion free and rub down with aloe vera gel after tanning. I get 95% of the benefits at 3% of the cost.

Thanks!!

Re: What ingeredients do what?

Ummm, NO! That is not how it works anvilfin. Once the UV light hits the skin and MELTs the lotion into the skin, you get a better moisturizing product. Not to mention the Unipertan that tanning products have in them.

Try putting a QUALITY tan product on 1 arm/leg and nothing on the other. See what you get...

Re: What ingredients do what?

Dearest Mitzi

I don't doubt there are some extra benefits but the tanning spa here in Canada wanted $90 for a small bottle of there tanning lotion. If you read the ingrediants other than lots of emolliants and aloe vera the rest is unproven effects other than the dyeing agents to make you appear tanned sooner.

The aloe vera will help promote a healthy skin. And I don't need to fake a tan till the real on kicks in so unless there is some research I have missed on this site and others at $90 the value is not there.

I look forward to any links that could show empirical evidence on any of these PRO lotions as being measurably more effective.

thanks

Near as I can tell from all the reading I have done is that the Pro tanning lotions are a money maker for the salons far more than a help to you.

Buy a good aloe vera gel and rub it in after each tanning session.

My view is you will get 90% of the value at 3% of the cost.
