I've tried almost every lotion available on the market, though I'm partial to SB products, I've yet to find anything to turn me more BROWN instead of bronze .

I find I can only get that color from the actual sun and not the bed, anyone have any ideas?

I'm a tan-a-holic and I go everyday, I definitely get darker, but not a brown color I crave.

Don't you think everyday is overdoing it just a tad?

Overdoing it, maybe. But I have dark skin to begin with, I'm part Arab and Cherokee Indian, I've only been going everyday for the past couple of weeks so I could definitely get a nice base before I head to Mexico.

I think it takes quite awhile after you tan for your tan to actually appear.. For the melanin to come to the surface.. So I was told only to tan every other day to get the maximum results. Otherwise you are just damaging your skin.

In my opinion you are doing server damage to your skin. If you put this in perspective: a tanning bed omits on average like 8,000 watts of power, that’s like 3 times as powerful as the noon sun. If you go in a bed everyday it will cause your skin to flake, itch, age, and it may over time cause skin cancer. I highly recommend that you limit your visits to 3 times per week, for your own good. If you have a base tan then you don’t need to go that often. Think about the safety of yourself, don’t over do it like that... just a good opinion.

I appreciate the advice. If I felt like my skin was being damaged ie: turning red, being dry, itchy etc, I wouldn't go as often. But the fact is when I walk out i'm just brown, never red. I also usually only do the 10 minute standup bronzing bed. I rarely lay down for 20 minutes.

PS: I wouldn't say I go everyday, it's 3 days straight, a break for a few days, then a few more days straight I haven't gone tanning everyday for 3 weeks! Thats overhaul!

Regardless of whether you feel the skin damage, it's still there if you're going back to back like that. Every now and then is one thing (like when you're on vacation), but doing this on a regular basis can break down the elastin in your skin (due to not giving your skin enough time to replace vital nurtients that are lost during the tanning session) and will lead to wrinkles a few years down the road. Anything over moderation raises the risks of major damage.

It also helps to understand how tanning works. During a tanning session, your skin is hit by UVA and UVB. UVB causes melanin production, and UVA changes the color of melanin once it hits the surface. It takes anywhere from 24-48 (some experts say even longer) for new melanin to reach the surface of the skin, where it is tanned. Tanning before melanin reaches the surface does little to no good, but does cause your skin to dry out and lose nutrients. So, in short, tanning every other day is just as effective for color change (if not more) and less stressful on your skin. Skin damage is permanent...you don't get a second chance. Why risk it?

As for your question....are you using a bronzer? (Most SB products have bronzers in them) If so, it may be the bronzer that makes you look bronze instead of brown. Especially if outdoor tanning makes you brown.
I would try a good accelerator or tingle lotion without bronzers for a while and see if that helps.

Try natural tanning products without any "effects" (bronzing, colling, tingling)

You can try DS Halo with UVB inhibitors in it. It will give you a brown color and it helps keep the reddening effect away. DS also makes Soul which is the same as Halo but it has a tingle. These products work really well. I love them and I have a BROWN tan.
