I haven't offered any testers in my salon because I am worried about customers using them every time they come in and not buying a lotion. How do you guys handle this? Do you offer testers?

It hasn't been a problem here...I use it as an opportunity to talk to a customer about a new product or a specialty product such as a face or moisturizer .
We are trying to decide on what new products to carry and we have gotten excellent feedback on which ones are liked. Most customers do buy!

I have people all the time using it after they tan. I try and talk to them about it when they are putting it on. One day I had a teenager come in and ask for a cup and lid so she could fill it up! Not! I also caught a lady pumping some into her Walmart bottle! Loser.

I do the same as Sherin. I have various samples that they try out. They usually will buy one the same day or after the second try. I also make a note in their record to indicate which sample they tried. Keeps track so they cannot get samples ever time.

I just got testers for all of my new CalTan lotions, so I will start using them. Thanks guys!

I always keep a bottle of undercover angel on the counter for a tester and I have people who EVERY DAY just come out and use it and never even act like they are going to buy a bottle. PI$$ES me off.

That's what I am worried about. I am located in a very upscale area, and I have come to realize why these people have a lot of money...it's because they are soooooo cheap! They want discounts on everything, if not for free. When we first opened, we were doing 10% off packages for the gym members at the gym next to us. A couple a days ago, a lady came in (pulled up in a brand new BMW) and told me that she had heard we were doing 10% off for gym members. She had bought a package the day before for $33. I told her that was a promo we were doing for the first month we were open, but we weren't doing it anymore, which is why it wasn't offered to her when she purchased her package. She got all mad and said she wanted the refund, so I said "You really want your $3.30?" "ABSOLUTELY!" So I took it out of the drawer and handed it to her. Gimme a break.

I had someone who was doing that with the testers, and one day (when no one else was here) I said, "You seem to like that lotion alot!" "I would like to make you a special offer and sell you a bottle @ 25% off." And then she did! Sometimes it takes a reminder that you are Selling Stuff! Then there are some that I know are unemployed and can't afford it & I look the other way as I know this is a luxury they probably can't afford, but I know their loyalty will be there when they do get a job!
