Rep Power: 23 | I had a customer ask me if it was true that it is better to let your lotion soak in as opposed to putting it on immediatley before tanning. I told her I wasnt sure but I would check. Now I'm aksing the tannig experts! |

Rep Power: 0 | I don't know really but it says on most lotions to apply immediately prior to tanning. I had one customer that tried appling her lotion at home and she told me that the results were better when she put it on immediately before getting in the tanning bed. |

Rep Power: 22 | We are taught in class that a client apply lotions early if they like. It will give the lotion(so to say) time to be absorbed in the skin. If they are applying right before getting in the tanning bed, most of it normally remains on the tanning bed. The only thing about applying prior to coming in the salon, the client could cause themselves overexposure to the exposed area of skin, while they are outside, if the do not come directly to the salon. You can apply prior to tanning, doesnt really matter. The results are gonna be about the same. The biggest thing about lotions are the moist the skin the better it will tan. MOist skin stays tan longer. Skin is losing moisture when a person tans. That's natural, but it needs to be replenished or skin is going to look really dry, especially if a person tans on a regular basis without tanning lotion. Because dry skin also reflects more tanning rays, people who dont use lotion are alson minimizing the total impact of the session they paid for. Skin needs some nutrients in order to maximize its tanning potential. The whole goal of indoor tanning lotion manufactures is to find new ingredients and new combinations of ingredients to help a person maximize their tanning potential. Its hard to maximize your potential when dry skin is busy reflecting those rays. Is this a better explaintion. _________________ [ This Message was edited by: TanningEmporium on 2003-10-01 11:56 ] |

Rep Power: 0 | You get a greater magnification of the UV by applying lotion immediately before tanning because the skin is super moist. If you apply at home, a lot of the lotion has rubbed off onto clothes and car seats. I say applying at the salon is best. Pam |

Rep Power: 21 | tanman02 I agree 100% and Cal Tan will back you on that one. I went to a Cal tan Class and was told to apply it immediatly prior to tanning for best results, if you apply at home chances are most of it is rubbed off on your clothes. |

Rep Power: 0 | just to help clarify a little, you should apply lotion immediately before tanning. Before you apply lotion, your skin looks like a mountain range, peaks and valleys and rough. This will actually make the uv rays "bounce" off of your skin, rather than penetrate the skin. When you apply lotion, the lotion smooths away the peaks and valleys and leaves a glass-smooth surface, which allows the uv to penetrate the skin at optimum levels. Now, when a tanner applys lotion at home, they are smoothing out their skin, but then when they put their clothes on to go to the salon, they are "roughing up" their skin again. So, the skin is moisturized, but it is no longer smooth, making the top layer of skin no different than if they had not put on the lotion at all. |
