How many of these calls in one day do you get from different distributors all fighting for your business dollar. But what is their real motivation? Getting you the best deal possible on your lotions? The company has a great kickback on "fill in the blank" lotion? The distributor has a surplus and wants to get rid of some of the lotion they are sitting on?

What do you as a salon owner think your sales reps are really up to? In your opinion, who are they really looking out for?

I work with two distributors, and they rarely call...BUT there is a cesspool down in Florida I refuse to even listen to.

What are you trying to say? Myself, as a distributor, and once on the other end as a manager for a sucessful chain of tanning salons, I enjoy being able to help my customers in many ways; lotion education and helping them be as profitable as possible. I actually spend sometimes hours on the phone with new salon owners; helping them choose what is going to work best in their salon and what has worked for me, personally, in the past. I pass on selling tips and secrets that I have learned. I resent that statement, because I have great relationships w/ my customers.

The only lotion companies I know of that will deal directly with the end user is part of a cesspool in Florida. They like calling me and hearing no, no, no, no, no.....

I am not sure why you are so offended. I am merely posing a question because I am curious how the salon owner views me as a lotion sales rep. The point that I am trying to make is that not all salespeople are out purely for the almighty dollar. Now I am not saying that I would give up my paycheck to continue doing my job, but I have personally steered customers away from the spiff product b/c it would not be in the best interest of the salon owner to carry the specific product, ie. Salon owner can't sell tingle to save her life, but I have a spiff on a very high tingle, I am not going to encourage her to buy 3 cases of it just so I can get the spiff. I would rather build a rapport with the salon owner so that they trust and respect my opinion, and more importantly keep ordering from me BECAUSE the trust and respect my opinion. Sure it would be nice to make the quick buck, but in the long run, that helps no one. We are in such a volatile industry already, why try to sabotage it more.

There is a difference between those of us who call salons looking to be able to invest our time in them and help them in being able to make decisions about what is and isn't going to work well for them and educating them on the different products, and there are those distributors who have hundreds of employees making hundreds of calls a day, even calling the same salon multiple times, just trying to "undercut" those of us out there who actually care about our salons and salon owners. What I am saying is that there are two types of sales people; those of us who care and those who don't. It isn't like we are those telemarketers who call people at home at dinner time for a service that they don't need b/c obviously they already have a phone that you are calling to bug them on. We are offering services to salon owners who all could benefit from learning something new... Did you know that your own dry skin can repel 50% of UV light? Try that next time someone doesn't want to purchase a lotion b/c they don't see the need to. Would you pay for a car and only use half of it? Of course not!

I am sorry, I think that you have missed the point of this post entirely. It is a poll for salon owners to see how they view distributors. Instead of bickering, perhaps all of the DISTRIBUTORS who care could sit back and see what our valued CUSTOMERS have to say for themselves. Maybe we could all learn something!
