I think expiration dates are a really good idea....

Just think with some of the tanners, they will see this expiration date, and think to themselves....
Ohh, I better use this all up before the expiration date, so i will not "lose my investment".

Hence, maybe adding to the selling of lotions...

It would also be good for the products that carry DHA in the formulations....This gets watery, and there would be the "backup" of an expiration date printed on the bottles...

I wrote this, because it was the way I saw it, and again, I think it is a great idea...

Melty, you said a lot in your post. I wish all my tanning clients would see it from your point a view.

Ok I do like this idea in the fact that it seems it might prohibit much of the diversion going on. It also seems that it would be a benefit to us and our clients as they would be using up their lotions and hopefully buying more from us. However, the downfall I see is that there would be less specials on products, maybe the expired ones which clients would not buy and there would be more pressure to sell your lotions, would you have a year? Or would your distributor sell you something 6 months old and then you only have that amount of time to sell it and get a client to use it. I think overall it would be a good thing because we can see what we are buying, how old it is but I think there are many issues surrounding expiry dates as well.

Maybe salons should put their own expiration dates on in their salons. Say 6-8 months from when they recieved it, that way it will encourage people to buy it. As far as the distributors having fresh product, I think alot more stuff will be on backorder for fear that they will overstock and product will "spoil"

Do you think any Manufacture would actually do this? I think it is doubtful, but sure would be good for all of us.

Wish some of the manuf. would step up and comment on this as to why or why not...

Folks,
Most maufacturers do not have ambient data or accelerated data to substantiate an expiration date. We do however...but I still feel as if it is a box of worms.
Best regards,

Several years ago, I sold a very 'pink' brand of cosmetics. We did not have an expiration date but instead a production date coded on each bottle. We knew the shelf life of particular products and thus could determine our own expiration date. It helped in rotating product and keeping inventory fresh. Could that be beneficial to us with our lotions? What is our unopened shelf life?

Great idea We do private label and I over ordered some moisturizer , well in a year I had to throw some out, better to do that, than have someone get bad product.

I think the date labeling is a great idea...I vote for that one.
