PS..to tanners and "wannabes"..when it come to lotion diversion your opinion is not needed requested or appreciated..

Go back to asking questions about lotion, beds and so on..... But stay out of our business...PLEASE!

MJ I like you and all... I think you're a very smart woman who is courageous enough to take a stand on the tough issues. But this little PS is just above and beyond what is necessary.

I understand that you're frustrated about things but there's no need to insult the tanners. WE are the ones who keep you in that business that you're telling us to stay out of. I hope you don't treat your customers with this attitude.

I agree and I think how we as tanners spend our money IS our business.

NJchica & TaninCA,
I Know that Nj is a teacher.. Do you like it when parents tell you how to do your job as a teacher? After all their taxes pay your salary???

That particular comment was directed to the tanner who blatently posted (I am paraphrasing)" Big deal stop whining, you can divert lotion too"..."just stop ******ing attitude"

Fact: Diversion hurts our industry!
That will eventually hurt you as a tanner. TRUST ME.

I knew that I would have to defend my stand I am am prepared... Just as a owner I do not appreciate a tanner telling me to suck it up and shut up.

Diversion is a owner issue. Please let us "fix" our own industries problems. Do you allow parents in your teacher union meeting to discuss how to "fix" the problems you face as a teacher???

Anyone can purchase lotion online if you do then do what you feel is necessary. OI Just do not like the fall out. as I stated with ONLINE LOTIONS in my post.
Know what you are purchasing is more then likley old, expired and probably badly matched to your skintype lotin..Is all I am saying. What you do with your money is your business.

BTW,I do treat my clients with much respect ... Thanks for your concern.

****, I would be thrilled if they wanted to give me some pointers! After all, they have a lot more experience with their children than I do. And I am open to all criticism. I don't have 25 years of teaching experience and I am open to any suggestions that might make my life easier.

I see your point MJ and I only hope that you see mine.

Nj, I do see your point and I personally think you need to move to my school district..

I agree to disagree on this though...Diversion is an owners issue, cause by dist, manufacturers, and a handful of owners...Let us deal with cleaning up the mess.If we can...

I hope you did not take offense to my post. You are a responsible intelligent Person/tanner from what I have been able to gather from your posts.

For you tanners out there, weather it be in a salon or in your basement: I think that when MJ said stay out of our business, she meant stay out of the business side of our business. You don't know the bills, the liability, the stupidity, the diversion, the knowledge, the education, the science, the public servant, the frustration, or the heartache we have to deal with.

Don't get me wrong. I love the job I am LEARNING how to do. My job is to make people beautiful! Who wouldn't love that? But there is a lot more involved in it than you can imagine. NJ, perhaps you want our imput as a parent, but surely you are not suggesting that we have any idea what you must go through to do your job. We can tell you all about our children, but can we really tell you how to do your job? I don't htink so.

My husband and I own two businesses, neither of them are in any way related. His is deals more with cars and glass. When we bought our first business we thought it would be easy. How hard could it be? We were wrong.

So for several years we struggled and finally figured out that we were doing well as Entrepreneurs. Thinking that we were much wiser we went into the tanning industry. Still, we were wrong. You can never know what is involved until you "walk in those shoes."

So please, if are a tanner, thank you for your business. Thank you for your loyalty and interest in this industry. Give us your imput because we need it. But do not ASSume that you know how to run our business better than we do.

The management.

BTW: I will be willing to tell everyone here that I am in North Texas, my business name is Neon Sun, and my name is Shallee. I am proud of what I do and proud of what I say. I have nothing to hide and as a matter of fact, I hope that there are some of my customers reading that know who I am. At least then they know that I am trying to learn at all times. My employees occasionaly come here too. I have discussed one in particular and am especially proud of the outstanding job that she does. (Don't get a big head Jessie).

Anything else you want to know about me?

But it is necessary. It needed to be said. MJ said what most of us already thought but didn't say yet.

What if I came into the store you worked and said "No thanks, I can get that on ebay for much cheaper." ??? Or if I openly told you customers at your retail location where they could obtain the same merchandise you were selling for much less? Would you be insulted? You cannot purchase beauty supplies without a license... doing so is diversion. An outlet can lose the right to sell certain products if they sell to someone who doesn't have a license. Tanning products are no different. Just because you read a few threads and post a few times doesn't make you a lotion expert. But, there are lotion experts here. Greg is one of them. I am not a lotion expert either... but I know a he11uva lot more than than tanners do. It is my job... day in, day out. I take classes, courses and am certified. You don't. Would you EVER propose to tell a pharmacist what kind of prescription you'd have? Would you tell a mechanic what kind of engine you want? And do you tell a chef what kind of seasoning to use? I hope you don't show up with your own condiments at a fine restaurant.

I realize that not everyone can tan at an establishment like the ones we have. I've been there myself. But I never, not once, bought a lotion from ANYONE except my salon owner. I used what they recommend, EVERY TIME. And I supported them with my $$. Because I love the product and service they provide, it is in my best interest to insure they stay in business. You don't even KNOW the person online that you are supporting.

You’re right - I don't know what that stuff is or what it does but I love Bombshell! I also love CalTan (Pure Chocolate) and several other lotions I have and I bought almost all of them from my salon. Reading these posts when you discuss training and skin-typing, I believe the people who work at my salon aren't educated in skin typing, it was never done for me, but I never asked either, I think I have a pretty good feel for how my skin burns. I have asked and they have offered opinions on what lotions have worked for them or for others.

I value opinions I see here (Love it or shove it) and from "Barnies" for my next purchase. Your opinions as salon owners are important to me because not only have you probably tried everything there is out there, you get feedback from your customers on what has worked for them, which is why we tanners come here, not to “attack” Greg. Greg has offered the salon owners his opinions on how to boost their sales and I respect that, just as I respect the salon owners are trying to make a profit instead of run a charitable organization. (do you see how often I’ve use the word “opinions”???) I just personally felt by his position of “shaping the truth” he assumes that the average tanner can be easily manipulated. Sell me on your honesty and I’ll pay that extra $$.

I think some of the things that have been said about the tanners for having an opinion on that particular issue are a little harsh. As I said before, I like my salon. It's clean, the beds are nice and so are the people, but if I thought for one moment they thought they could manipulate me I’d be out of there, there are many more who’d happily take my $$. They do offer really nice perks here and there and incentives to purchase lotion, which was one of his suggestions I believe. For me tanning and lotion is a luxury and I enjoy it – it’s my daily stress break from a hectic office, but it is a luxury because God knows I should be paying off that D!*# Visa, and I can tan at my gym for free! I think lotion is marked up like leather and jewelry (even a beer at a bar!!!) and I want it (all!) I just can’t always afford to pay $50-$70 for it, I hope that doesn’t make me a cheap a$$.

I’m sorry to drone on but many of you seem angry towards us tanners. I hope that if you do decide to exclude the tanners from your boards it won’t be out of spite because some of us took issue with the way something was said and that you will allow access to the “love it or shove it” and some other areas.

P.S. I don't know if the owner of the TanPro salons frequents any of these boards but I would hope he consider me a loyal customer rather than a gremlin. And I do keep a bottle of hot sauce in my purse J

Thanks, Kris – 34 – from Ohio

Great post luv!

I am not the wicked witch that some may thing..I am not angry with tanners.
I just do not take lightly the "Get over it.. I like diversion attitude, It helps me SAVE $$!"

We are here to be helpful, learn more about our industry and grow...I spend a great deal of my time educated my clients. On the exact same issues we discuss here and on other boards. Skin typing, skin care, and the benifits of a regulated moderate tanning schedule.

It may appear to some as my "speak my mind post" was a window to how I deal with my clients..Not soo. ( unless they repeatedly push me over the egde) Hey, I will be honest. Why lie now??? I have gone off on 2 clients in the last 3 years.
AM I NOT HUMAN????

I can only hope that the message is not lost in all the frustration...
Keep it real and in prespective. Tanner have a place here it is actually good that the online community can teach them something that their salon can not or won't. Especially when it comes to skin care and tips on how to achieve a healthy tan and maintain great skin!!

and now the BUT.....

Like Neon and a few others summerized my exact state of mind.....stay out of the business side of our business. I hope you truly understand.

Ohh and Luv....There are great quality lotions out there that are less then $50-$70..I know I carry several price point lotions for my clients that like everyone else in this free world who LIVE ON A BUDGET..
(I know I do! shhhh do not tell anyone PLEASE! You will destroy my image of me eating bon bons and drink "rita's" poolside.. served by a handsome pool boy )
