Ok guys. I need help and I need it fast. A customer came in this afternoon. Used a bronzing lotion. It stained her hands. She is leaving in the morning for a class reunion. What can she do to fix it? Please help.

I'm going to leave the removal advice to someone else. However... I know the key to prevention. I'm going to quote something I learned from Greg at Soakin' up the Rays...

The biggest problem with using a Bronzing product is uneven application of the Bronzing product causing stain to your hands or a streaky appearance. All day long your hands are losing moisture and are becoming dry. When you put a lotion in your hand, your body reacts by rapidly absorbing the available moisture. If that lotion contains a Bronzer, your hands will absorb a lot of the Bronzer, staning the hands extra dark. The best way to stop this is to use a moist towellete to wet your hands before applying the Bronzer tanning product then rewipe before tanning making sure to get between your fingers. That way your hands soak up water and will not absorb the lotion with the Bronzer as quickly.

I would also suggest that anytime you sell a product with a Bronzer to give this advice to your clients. They will thank and appreciate your advice. Also recommending an after exposure tanning product to keep moisturized in between tanning session will help eliminate Bronzed hands. Preventive medicine can help eliminate those little last minute emergencies such as this.

Thanks guys. I think I found a solution . My partner called the customer at home last night. We are going to see if this works or not.

Mix laundry detergent powder with water making a very thick paste. Use the paste to scrub hands.

I'll let everyone know if this works.

Tangirl,

That's what I tell people to use when they have a stain. It should do the trick!

I was told by a sales rep that if you put a moisturizing lotion on you hands, knees, elbows, and ankles before applying a bronzer lotion it will not absorb and stain these areas. (bronzestars advice is correct about those places being dryer that the rest of the body)

I always tell clients to wash their hands with a body scrub and loufa sponge the bronzer should come right off.

Telling them to wash hands with a baby wipe after applying does really prevent staining though and you are right, they are super appreciative.

Thanks,
Stacey

I discovered that using a vinyl glove for application puta a stop to the problem before it starts. I have the at the desk anyway. After I explain the bronzer to a customer, I explain about the hands and offer them either a baby wipe or a glove. They usually choose the glove when I tell them they will use less lotion because it will not be trying to moisturize their leather hands. Works for me.
