How do you deal with Telemarketing? As season approaches telemarketing will only increase. How do you stop telemarketers from harassing you and steal your time that you need to be focused on your tanners! ------------------Greg KlesiusSoakin' Up The Rays, Inc.1-800-935-7625 WWW.Soakinuptherays.com Awarded the First TSO Seal of Approval WWW.naatso.org [This message has been edited by Soakinuptherays (edited 01-08-2001).]

I had requested time and time again for a certain company to stop calling and I finally just got rude and haven't heard from them since. I hate to be that way, but sometimes its the only way. I haven't had this problem a lot. Most of the time I can say no, we are not going to stock that line and they will not call anymore. But I agree that we should spend less time on the phone with telemarketers and more time on customer relations.

Started by telling them I am busy. That would work, but then they would just call back in a short while. Asked MANY times to be taken off their list. Had to even call another phone number to take [bold]more[/bold] of my time. Then, started just hanging up on them. Again, that works for a short while and they are back on the phone again. Finally, began to order large amounts of their products COD and refused them when they arrived. One company called me back once asking why I did not accept shipment. When I explained, she got very upset telling me that is No Way to do business. When I tried to turn the tables and tell her that annoying me constantly was NO WAY to do business, she hung up on me.Now, just hang up when I realize who they are. Done Deal! If I want your product, I will contact you.Mike

You can't get rid of them. They won't stop calling you. They will not take you off there list. So because of this, just for fun, I go the Jerry Sienfeld route. As example, When they start pitching me I cut in and say "Oh, I'm sorry (Bob, Jane, ****, whoever...) but I'm really busy right now, can I get your home phone # and call you back later when I have some free time?" Usually they'll respond by telling you they can't give you there home phone. Response"oh, that must mean you don't like being bugged on your time either?" It wont really stop them from calling you, but it certainly stumps them temporarily. Actually this works best at home with like long distance telephone people. You can say "oh so you don't like being bugged at either."I saw this on Jerry Sienfeld" once. Just thought it was SOOOO funny.

When I suspect a telemarketer, I tell em that "I" don't work there anymore, and the new person in charge of purchasing is "Herb" for instance, and of course, "Herb is NEVER" in the office when they or anyone else they share their list with calls.
