this might sound dumb but when is the best time to apply lotion? i've always put it on at the salon right before tanning. however, an employee recently said i would get better results if i put the lotion on at home 15 - 20 mins before tanning allowing it to penetrate the skin instead of sweating it off(yuck). i've used matahari, jam, creme brulee and hp2000, but not thrilled with any, could this be why?

First don't use tanning machines that aren't designed to keep you cool so that you do not sweat. That's nasty! Sweat is salty and dries your skin. Its also not very comfortable to lay in a hot puddle of sweat.Apply the lotion right before tanning while the lotion is still moist on your skin it magnifies light the most. Also use the lotion instead of your regular moisturizer every day after you shower or bath, this works as well if the lotion has tyrosine in it.

Tanninggoddess... welcome to Tantalk. You came to the right place for information. Please take any advice from Chippp with a grain of salt. He often has great input in general, but you should be aware that he does not operate any laydown style tanning beds. He owns only stand up booths... so any comments he suggests about beds will be very one sided and eskew. As far as when to apply, I do have to agree with him there. You should apply the tanning lotion immediately before tanning. If you have switched brands and aren't achieving the results you desire, then my next question would be... Where do you buy your lotion? If you are buying from your salon, my next question would be, how often do you tan? If you are tannning everyday, you have built up a tolerance to tanning and need to give yourself a rest. I tan about 2 to 3 times a week myself. Thirdly, if neither of those are the issue, my question would be, how often does your salon owner change their bulbs on their beds? If you salon owner isn't rebulbing a bed as they should, it will force you to tan more often, costing more, not giving you the desired results and on and on and on. A clever cover up from them might be to blame your lotion application.------------------Laurie

I've always bought my lotion directly from the salon and I tan once or twice a week in a VHR bed. I'll ask next time when they changed their bulbs last since I can remember only once in the last 4 months.
