Do any of you allow your clients to keep their lotions at your salon? I've started doing that & I think it's a good benefit for them since they don't have to keep it in their hot car all day or they may forget it at home. Does anyone have an organized way or place to keep them? These lotions are adding up & I need more space or maybe alphabatized shelves. Any suggestions? Thanks!Sun City Tans

Ginger, When I worked in our smaller salon it worked for awhile, that is until peak season hit. There was no way to offer this in our larger salon. What you could do is put in mail boxes that lock. You could charge so much per month, week, etc. for renting one.

Our customers love this! We use a file cabinet to keep everything in. We place their stuff (lotions, goggles, lip spf, hair ties, whatever) in a zip lock bag and label it with their name. That way, they don't have to worry about their lotion exploding in their car due to dramatic temp changes or worse yet...the temp can also take it's toll on the lotion by breaking it down and making it less effective.

Bober,That's a great way to keep everything together. How do you organize all the ziplocks? Do you have them in any kind of order using different file drawers? I think this is a great service for those that want to leave their lotion. Thanks!GingerGinger

Ginger~~~We try to alphabetize...such as Drawer #1 A-FDrawer #2 G-Ma, Drawer #3 Mc-R, Drawer #4 S-Z. Depends on what you have alot of...for example, we have alot of Irish clients, therefore we have a TON of Mc's!!!Just make sure the bags are sealed when you get them back at the end of their session. The slide-lock ones are the best. One other thing to consider when doing this: They are going to keep coming back to you because you have their stuff! Good luck! Bober,That sounds like a good system. I haven't been thru a busy season yet & I have a shelf full of people's lotions. I knew if I kept doing this, I needed a better way, more shelf space, or something. The file cabinet sounds like the perfect way to organize them. Thanks!Sun City Tans

Thats all ok in the beginning. We had a tall file cabinet that we bought at Kmart,,Organized everything by alphabetical. Its a huge pain in the ***.Customers will leave everything but their car keys in the bags..such as bathing suits, blistex etc...we now only hold their lotions , on a book case we bought just for that..

We don't have any problems with people leaving huge items there (swimsuits). If they leave their lip SPF there, that is fine. Just means they are protecting their lips. We have done this for 3 years and probably always will. Yes, sometimes it gets to be a pain, but making things convenient for my customers makes things profitable for me.

I have had a few people that I allowed to leave lotion in the salon. It works if there is only one or two bottles. But when there are many employees coming in and out it is not a good idea. What if a bottle comes up missing? Then the customer expects you to give them a new bottle, because you took responsibility for there product.
