I love having my points proven! While, I was in Chicago doing training for one of my customers. I had just gotten through having a discussion about the harm to tanning salon owners from indoor tanning product diversion with a major player in the indoor tanning industry that happen to stop by Sparky's salon in Chicago.I was making my point about indoor tanning product diversion from Beauty Suppliers, Flea Markets, Internet sites, sales to home tanners and retail store sales. With the fact my brand, Soakin' Up The Rays (R) does not sell to beauty suppliers, retail stores, home tanners, flea markets or to internet outlets to protect my customers profits. This major player agreed with me about the harm of diversion from beauty suppliers and other sources but said to me that Australian Gold selling their indoor tanning products in retail stores in Florida was diversion. That those Australian Gold indoor tanning products sold in Florida retail stores for less that suggest tanning salon retail prices never effected tanning salon outside Florida. He made a point of saying I was completely wrong for suggesting that it was diversion. My point was proven not 30 minutes later, when one of Sparky's tanners walked in the door carrying a bottle of Australian Gold: Tanning Accelerator with Bronzer. (I know that product is only sold in Florida due to the Gold front label and that particular item is a not sold to indoor tanning salon).I asked the customer, where he bought it and what he paid. The answer was in Naples, FL and $5.99 a bottle! That Florida product stole profits from Sparky's salon because it denied him the opportunity to sell that customer a bottle! So if you think that Australian Gold selling indoor tanning products at Walmart's, Grocery stores, drug stores and other retail stores in Florida is not diversion as ETS claims and is not effecting your profits then you have been proven wrong!

Have you ever heard of free enterprise? Salon's will never be the only source of lotion because of it. Face the facts that it's a hopeless battle. Besides, what if a tanner has a lotion that they absolutely love and then moves and the new salon doesn't carry it. Why should the tanner have to change products? Why should the tanner have to pay a higher cost because the salon special orders something and can't get a volume discount? Why can't the tanner order the lotion and use it?

I can tell you are a tanner not a salon owner because selling tanning products is one of the primary profit centers for tanning salons. Without those profits many salons would go out of business or be forced to charge higher prices for tanning sessions.Indoor tanning product manufactuers choose who they sell their products to. Selling their indoor tanning products to Beauty Suppliers, Retail stores, Home Tanners, Internet Outlets and Flea Markets may be profitable for the manufactuer but it is stealing profits from tanning salon owners! As far as the tanner goes:Would You Bring Your Own Food to a Restaurant?:Tanners need to know that bringing a tanning product bought from an outside source to a tanning salon is like bringing their your own food to a five star restaurant. You wouldn’t take a grocery store perm or hair coloring kit to your professional hair stylist to save a few dollars. Tanning salon owners are tanning professionals with a large variety of premium quality tanning products to help tanners get better results from tanning sessions at prices that every tanner can afford.

When you are shopping, do you look for the HIGHEST price for that item so you can pay that, instead of the best deal? I guess you figure the stores must put those ads in the newpaper just so people can shop for the highest price to pay. I bet you look for the most expensive gas station too. Gee, you must have a lot of money to waste. Probably because you charge so much for your tanning products . What makes lotion shopping any different than shopping for any other product on the market? Is there some special reason I am supposed to pay more for something just because the people making the money don't want me to buy it somewhere else? If we follow your logic, we are supposed to buy everything from the most expense place, so the business owner is making the most money. Yeah, that's going to happen. Can you honestly say you never look for the best price for any thing?

You never gave your opinion about clients that want to use a brand that isn't sold in their salon. For the record, I'm talking about one of the many premimum, branded lotion, not one of the discount store lotions. I'll agree with you 100% that those lotions are crappy and it doesn't take a salon owner to figure that out.

So you would like to purchase lotions cheaper, right? As Bober pointed out, if you want to purchase cheaper lotions then our tanning sessions will have to go up to make up for the loss in the lotion sales. And by the way, I personally advise my clients on the type of lotion they should use, if they are very fair skin then they don't need to or should not use a very hot action lotion until they get a very good base tan. Does the internet, fleamarket and others care if you get something to strong, No they just want to make a sale and if you get the wrong product, oh well, suffer.

As a consumer, I look for the best deal when purchasing a product which does not neccesarily mean the cheapest price. You can buy an inexpensive product and get what you pay for.Salon owners make more profit from lotion sales. This is their income. Most consumers have a job to provide income. Salon owners are not trying to "rip off" their clients by selling lotions in their salon. Their price may be more than what you could find a lotion priced at a flea market. But, what about quality? A salon orders their lotions either from a distributor or directly from the mfg. Where did the lotion come from that Ms. Flea Market has for sell ?? How long did it sit in some warehouse before she bought it? How hot did it get ? Try leaving a tingle lotion in your hot car on a hot sunny day and see what happens. The lotion you buy at flea markets could be old. It could be old packaging-an old formula-or ruined lotion that someone just wanted to get off their hands.Example-I use Paul Mitchell hair products. I purchase them at my hair salon. Yes I amguilty of once purchasing some Paul Mitchell products at a drugstore. It was crap!! It was old and I wasted my money. His products even state on the bottle that he does not guarantee his products unless purchased from a hair salon. Maybe lotion mfgs should stamp that on their bottles.
