Rep Power: 0 | Calculating Tanning Time Hello folks! I don't really belong here, as I do not own a salon myself, but I was referred to this site by someone on iamtanforever. I'll copy-paste the question I posted there: "I happen to own a tanning canopy (Google "Sunquest 2000" to get an idea), but it only has 6 lamps of 100 Watts each. Now, I realize professional tanning beds used in salons are waaaay more powerful. The ones in my area have 50 lamps of 160 Watts each, and more. All calculations for tanning times assume one uses these professional beds. I have Type III skin (normal, leaning close to type II, slightly sensitive), and even though I burn easily in the sun, it never peels or blisters. I was thinking 15 minutes a week (so 1 weekly session) in a professional salon would be enough, but I want to use my canopy. So... how would 15 minutes a week at 50x160W translate to 6x100W? Any advice? Thanks!" |

Rep Power: 24 | Re: Calculating Tanning Time There really is no way to give an answer with the limited amount of information provided. That being said, your best bet is to look at the label on the canopy, it should state an exposure schedule particular to that piece of equipment. It should state a maximum use time and have a recommendation of tanning times and frequency leading up to the maximum time. |

I genuinely don't see what other information I can provide, other than the number of lamps and their wattage. I guess I'll look for some documentation on the device, but I doubt I still have it. | |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Calculating Tanning Time There are a lot of things to consider but people here use commercial equipment so you are most likely not going to get a good answer. You would need solar meters to determine your tan time. You need to consider if it is a high uvb lamp or a low uvb lamp plus distance from the body also matters. A 32 lamp 100watt bed is a 20 minute bed so you would need to be under that thing for probably longer than you want to be considering you will have to keep flipping and moving. |
