Re: Lamp starters replaced how often?

The old saying, "if it works don't fix it" holds true here. But, I would change them everyother lamp change, for a more efficiant lamp startup.

Re: Lamp starters replaced how often?

Depends on the starter & bed. Many 100W units can go about 3 lamp changes on a standard starter. 160W should be changed every other lamp change. 180W Plus should be changed almost every lamp change.

A $1 starter can ruin a $15 lamp.

There are also Electronic starters that last almost forever in the right applications. I wouldn't recommend them in all units but they do great in many units.

Re: Lamp starters replaced how often?

I replaced all my starters with electronic, and those are the ones that give me problems. I've started to replace these with normal starters, when the lamp does not light.

Re: Lamp starters replaced how often?

All electronic starters are not the same, We have had some in units for over 7 years now & still going strong.

Remember Electronic starters only fire once, so you may need to cycle the bed on/off a few times when you replace the lamps. A regular glow bottle starter will continue to fire until the lamps starts. This is what also causes the black ends on the lamps.

Um, 120 watt "bulbs" are 100 watt "bulbs" just relabeled 120 watt. Same with 160 watt f 71 and 200 watt f 71. If someone charges you more for a 200 watt lamp they are ripping you off.

100 and 120 watt are the same. 160 and 200 watt are the same. The rest is just marketing. The ballasts that drive them are different however.
