Long Lamp Life

I installed new lamps in my Soltron S45 Hot Peppers then metered the lamps after about 30 hours use with a Solarmeter 5.0 and 7.0. Metering is done about every month on all beds and after 750 hours these lamps still read about 80-83% of new on both meters. We have no complaints from any of our customers on performance. Does this seem like an exceptionally long life for lamps on a 15 minute 40 lamp bed?

Re: Long Lamp Life

More information: these are Ergoline VHP15 lamps. Input voltage is 235v. Lamps were metered in a consistent manner with the same warm up time each metering and about the same time of day in the same position in the bed.

Re: Long Lamp Life

Those are 160w lamps driven at 140w so they will last longer. Great life though!

Re: Long Lamp Life

I have had some lamps last a lot longer than they should, and some fail way too soon (Heraeus). I bought some Mid-Day 5.0 lamps that lasted and metered even for a long, long time.

What counts is the metering, which is why metering is important! If they meter fine, why waste the money and swap em out? If they are defective, better to find out sooner than later!

Re: Long Lamp Life

I have Soltron beds , and The Hot Pepper beds w/ the vhp15 lamps, which are mentioned. The lamps state they are 140W which is recommended for that bed. I have tried some 160W lamps in these beds, but none perform like the OEM vhp15 lamps. I too, get exceptional long life and performance from these lamps. The Hot Pepper is my best performing bed, and my customers prefer it over my Soltron Wave, which uses 160W lamps.

Re: Long Lamp Life

The 140w lamps you are using is actually a 160w lamp labeled 140w. No difference.

Re: Long Lamp Life

^^^I do get a better price on those, over the Oem 160W. Robert, are you saying I could put the vhp15 in my Wave and they would be the same as the 160W I put in there? The Hot Peppers are 15 minutes and the Wave is 12 minute time.

Re: Long Lamp Life

They may be different lamps. The VHP15 is probably a "weaker" lamp then the VHP12.

Re: Long Lamp Life

The VHP 15 140W is argon gas only, will not perform the same as the VHP 12 160W. The VHP 12 160W is argon/neon mix, more total UV output.

For your Wave you should try the Heraeus Magic Sun 20/160R, then more people will use it.
