weak lamps, help?

OK, so bought an older used bed (sca/wolff series 2) from an out of business salon for use in my home. The owner said the lamps had been used between 400-500 hours and said they had another 500 hours roughly of use left. I am a newby so not sure if the bulbs were actually supposed to last that long. And of course did consider that he was maybe not being truthful and that I would need to relpace the bulbs. Sure enough, after 3 daily uses, the first one being pretty conservative as I was not sure of the bulbs, I got nothing. Is there anything I can do to milk a little more life out of these bulbs as a can't afford to replace them for a couple weeks? Thanks much!

Nope, not alot you can do when they're spent. Unfortunately you'll have to buy you some new ones. Lots of lamp distributors post here so expect to get several options. Will probably run you a few hundred bucks to relamp. Another excellent reason to leave tanning to the pros at your local salon.

Re: weak lamps, help?

um start with bulbs but def. replace starters every 2 to 3 bulb changes it really helps the bulbs start up and sometime a bulb isn't burnt out it's the starter.

Re: weak lamps, help?

If the lamps are starting then there is no reason to replace the starters. Starters last for years. 6,000 cycles or more.

The lamps are about shot. If you can't afford lamps right now just do double sessions. You can still get tan but it will take longer.

When you are ready to order lamps then call the number below. vvvvvv

Re: weak lamps, help?

Thanks Brian, do you mean go longer one time a day or hit the bed twice a day? Can I replace the top half of the bed this month and the bottom next month and just make sure to flip over when I tan until they are all replaced?

Just go longer for the session. You can do the top first then do the bottom later and just flip too.

Doesn't Lowe's carry bulbs for home use? I bet you can get some cheap one's there.

Re: weak lamps, help?

It's in a house. Residential voltage is 230-240. It will never be 208. Voltage will be fine.

Re: weak lamps, help?

Laura
another suggestion is to find a salon near you that uses the same lamps. I re-lamp beds early and give my used lamps to a few home bed owners.

My lamps will sometimes have around 50-100 hrs left on them. For a home unit those last a long time as opposed to constant use commercially.

Might work for you.
