ETS Beds catching fire

Ok.....in a week I've had a Starpower 548 and Solaris 442 wiring harness catch fire. Both beds were installed in Sept 2006, never had any issues with either before. The Starpower has considerable fewer hours of use than the Solaris.
Incoming voltage is 208v, boosted to 230v....exactly 231.4. The bed is rated for 230. There should be a +/- to handle the fluctuations of the power company.
What do you think caused these to burn from the inside of the receptacle?

Thanks for the help

Re: ETS Beds catching fire

I have had 2 beds do this. It is the wiring harness that malfunctions.

Faulty wiring when made... maybe?

Re: ETS Beds catching fire

The bed is about 10 years old, They only rate those beds at 220V, usually there is a warning not to run them higher than 220V.

Looks like it burned right at the back of the canopy where it connects to the bench? That open/close motion can cause stress, especially if the wires are rubbing against the wall.

Re: ETS Beds catching fire

If you need them, I have a brand new complete wiring harnesses for the Starpower 548!

My cell is 614-783-5518, my email is Ann.wiggins.noe@gmail.com

In terms of the cause - as the others said - could be too high of voltage, could be rubbing, could be age. Check the voltage and make sure nothing is pinching or rubbing as the canopy is lifted up and down before you resume use with new harnesses

Re: ETS Beds catching fire

What Happen is the Load is running higher when busy and the bed is not cooling down full time, for one also the amp are running high as the wire is not rated to carry the amp load., causing meltdown.

Re: ETS Beds catching fire

Check your rear fans as well . The cord/harnesses and wiggle loose somewhat easily - you have to lift the canopy to get to the plugs. Those fans cool the unit. All the above things suggested can all add to an issue like you had
