Rep Power: 0 | Used beds? I will be new to the tanning business. I already own a salon and the stylists are asking for tanning beds. I can't really afford 2-3 new beds and am wondering of it's ok the buy used ones. I found a salon that is selling some of the ones that they are currently using, but getting ready to replace. They said they still work great. The price is definitely right, but they seem kind of old. They are models ULTRA SUN 3500/3, PERFEC TAN 301, and ULTRA SUN 3000/2. Can anyone give me any advice on these beds and tell me of they would be good after replacing the lamps? I'm also wondering if they are easy to find replacement parts for and to work on. Thanks for any help. |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: Used beds? Buying pre-owned is the only way to go, given the cost of new. Out of the 3 beds you mentioned above, both Ultrasuns are the best choice. Forget the Perfect Tan. Yes parts available for USun beds. I believe they are located in Indiana. http://ultrasunusa.com Now, what are the lamp configurations of the US beds? Are they both 100w lamp beds? I know the US 3000 is, not sure if the 3500 is 100 or a 120w, or a combo of 100/160w lamps. With 2 or 3 beds, you should have an upgrade available. That is, at least one 100w bed (or 2), and an upgrade to a VHR bed with 160w lamps. Be sure you have adequate AC/electrical. If buying local (from closing/out of biz salon), or a local reputable buyer, try to arrange delivery and set-up as part of sale. Stay away from ebay/craigslist sellers, unless local where beds can be inspected, preferably by a tech, or if in use, try-out. If you decide to check out a reputable dealer, there are plenty in the Mid-west where you are |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Used beds? Thank you, Black Sun. I appreciate your input more than you know! The deal was that if I take all three beds I can have them for $400 each. He also said he has a level 4 bed with bronzer I can have for the same price. He guarantees all to work well. I'll have to check on the lamp configurations and, yes, I have electricians next door that do all our work. I'm having some prospective customers telling me I'd be better off to get one super bed than to get these four beds. I don't know enough about the business in this area to make a sound decision. Can you give me suggestions for reputable dealers in this area? I've done some research and there's so much out there that I don't know which way to turn. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: Used beds? I have another question...I ran across an Ergoline Ambition 300 Series Level 3 for $5000. Would this be a decent bed? I read somewhere that the Ergolines have computers in them that you have to have the company hook up and it's costly when buying used. Is this true for this bed? |

Rep Power: 14 | Re: Used beds? If you could buy the UltraSuns for $400 each, I'd take it...ONLY...if in working conditions, acrylics in good shape, lamps, unless new, consider replacing all of them..and that could be as much as an additional $400...but a needed investment, and well worth it...DON'T BUY the Perfect Tan. I'd be interested in knowing what the level 4 bed is that he is offering. The term 'super' in tanning is a worthless generic term. 20 years ago, 'super beds' were any bed with a bit more wattage than the bed (level) below. Most salons shy away from the 80-ish terminology. AS I said in my 1st reply, you want an upgrade..something for the customer to advance to in the next tanning plateau. A 160w bed is what you should consider. Here are some dealers: Heartlandtan.com (several locations thru midwest) RobertK..he is a mod here, very reputable: Superior UV Technologies (888) 526-7712 x77 robertk@superioruv.com Ann AKA SunSally here on the forum, very knowledgeable in the industry, sell pre-owned and I believe is in Midwest. Contact her thru TanTalk, I have no info JOHN @ URI Contact here thru boards Business Name: Ultraviolet Resources Int'l http://www.suntansupply.org/ Based I believe in Ohio The Ambition 300 is a good base bed, doubt it is worth 5K....as for computers, all newer beds, like cars, have some form of computer technology, esp higher end beds..but any qualified tech could do what is needed to get it running |
