Facial Bulbs, Voltage when bed off?

I was just re-bulbing the facials on a Dr Kern, and the lamp-holder pin shorted to the lamp-holder through the bulb, due to my clumsy hands.

It blew sparks everywhere, like it had major current going through it.

I had the bed off, but the breaker on (won't do that again). My question is whether that voltage should be there?

In other words, if the bed is off, there should not be any voltage going to the facial lamps, should there? If there is voltage going to the lamps, would that indicate a bad capacitor?

Thank you in advance!

Yes. That is a return wire, not run through the contactor. This is due to the fact that the bed is using 220v. Only one of the 'legs' goes through the control contactor.

You now have learned to disconnect power when working inside a tanning bed.

Good thing to know!
