Rep Power: 0 | NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE My wife and I recently purchased a tanning salon, and need to add some newer beds. My clients want "intense" beds, which I need some advice as what to get! I know that there are 12 or 15 min, higher level beds. The clients want "hotter and faster results". What are good used beds to buy in this category? Are there any reasonably priced new beds in this category? What beds should I stay away from? I live in NE Ohio. Your professional opinions are greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance; Art |

You don't want to add more beds that still have you at a disadvantage. Last edited by movieking; 01-31-2011 at 06:03 PM. |

Rep Power: 25 | Re: NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE From your other posts, looks like you have some older Sonnenbraun models. What else? But most importantly, as Movieking points out: How many total rooms now, with which beds in each What size rooms (to know what else could fit in them) How many total amps of power available (e.g. do you have a 200 Amp panel or more?)? 3 Phase or single phase. How many tons of AC do you have now? To upgrade beds, you want to make sure you have rooms big enough to accommodate them, but also know what sort of upgrading (if any) you would have to do to your electrical and/or HVAC. That COULD wind up being more expensive than the beds themselves! |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE The service is 100 amp, 3 phase. Room size is 8' long, 6'3 wide. The bed has about 3' 1-1/2" clearance for width, due to the room door placement. I have 9 rooms. Currently I have 1 10min stand up, and 2 bigger Sonnenbraun 726/1 models. My intent is to keep those 3, keep about 2-3 older wolf/Sonnenbraun units bor base units, and add a couple (2-3) level 2 (?) or "intense" units. My closest competition has 3 regular, 3 level "2", and 1 stand up! Thanks again for your valuable help; Art |

Rep Power: 25 | Re: NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE My recommendation is for you to call around and find an electrician familiar with tanning salons. Have them come look at your salon and tell you how much "room" you have to add stronger beds. I'd guess none - I'd guess you are pretty much maxed out on your 100A panel. In that case, I'd get a quote to add another panel - I'd probably go ahead and add a 200A panel. Ask him also to estimate the cost for you to add upgraded wires to the different rooms -- e.g. if you want to put a bed that requires 40-60Amp and the corresponding wire gauge size into a room that is currently outfitted for a 20A bed. I'd get those costs nailed down before you look at adding equipment so you know how much this entire project is going to cost you and make sure it fits your budget. |

Rep Power: 0 | Re: NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE I recently had the room with the stand-up. rewired w/#6, 60a. I currently have 40a in the remaining 8 rooms. My goal is to have 7-8 units. I have 5 "keepers" now, and am looking for options for the other 2-3. The remaining room will most likley be for spray-tan! By the way, what is a reasonably priced entry level HVLP spray system? Thanks again; Art |

Rep Power: 25 | Re: NEED BED PURCHASE ADVICE Unless I'm confused, if you have a 60A 3 phase breaker dedicated to your standup room, you have 40 amps of service left for the remaining 8 rooms, your convenience electrical (lighting, outlets, etc), your laundry (if you have it) and HVAC? The beds you have now must be running on at least 20A breakers - so the math in this isn't working for me. Maybe you actually have a 200A 3 phase panel? Even so, it would seem you would be maxed out. And substituting any beds in that would be of higher intensity than your base units would not work without not only upgrading the wire and breakers - but actually adding another panel - which can be pricey. It's doable - just expensive. Your other issue will be your room width. At 6'3", it will be hard to fit much in those rooms. A Heartland Bravo or Encore MIGHT fit. Maybe an older Orbit? An N'Joy (Tan America has one of these used on their website right now for $5k - a good price for High Pressure). Or another standup. Your room size is definitely limiting. Custom spray machines can be purchased for $1k and less used, up to 3-7K new. They make a MESS. If you room is "open" to the top, consider enclosing it or even doing something with fabric to drape the ceiling and help keep the overspray in the room. You'll also want some serious extraction fans. |
