Rep Power: 0 | Standard Bulbs What are some thoughts out in our industry from salon owners about the best 100 watt reflector or non-reflector for the money for standard beds in a salon. I tend to lean toward the idea of "you get what you pay for," and I also believe in higher standards than competition. However, I don't want to pay for something that is not worth the money. What are your collective thoughts? |

I am not a big poster on this site, but I will be opening my 6th location in February, so every decision I make is magnifies for every salon location. Yes, many manufacturers do make good 100w bulbs for standard beds. What I am curious about is the salon owners' thoughts over the years on which are the successful standard bed 100w bulbs both in performance and financially. Thank you. |

It'll depend what bed you use (brand, max exposure time, choke vs. magnetic ballasts...), what state you are in (regulated or not) and what sort of deals are out there right now. Also - how aggressive are you on the changes -- are you trying to squeak every last minute out of them or do you change them when they are still within 30% of peak performance or less? For my base beds, I want a "solid" lamp - but I don't want it to blow anyone away. That's what my upgrade beds are for. 80% of the tans in my salon are done on the upgrade equipment. I've used "name brand" (like LSI Midday Sun) and I've used private label equivalents that were clearanced out - both worked similarly well - one was cheaper! I use John Hayes at URI because I trust him. I ask his advice and go with what he recommends. He is a lamp salesperson of course - but I've always found him willing to look for the "deals" for me, and to take into consideration my entire bed mix so I have the right choices at all levels. He's on these boards - as is Robert K and Brian Oshman - and both are knowledgeable about lamps and willing to help you make the right choice for your application. I'm certain there are folks at Four Seasons and other places who are outstanding too. |
